Dabbin' err day

unfortunately i'm horrible about this and i have very few pictures....here is a macro-ish shot of my last run. i wasn't entirely happy with the consistency but i'm pretty sure i can put out solid shatter this next time.

yields like 5-6 for around 60 g's of solid trim, pulled just under a half from the same amount of what i consider "high" quality plant matter. (not dispensary dank, but better than you average person can get on the street)

i think i have been grinding it too fine though which pulls some plant mater through my screen and affects the color of my end product. also probably ups my yield a bit, but that doesn't matter much to me. also consider putting my greenery in the freezer before running it....i've heard mixed results from everyone and would just prefer trying it myself.
 
I put my last batch of broken up nugs in the freezer for ~6 hours before blasting and it came out well. Going to do another run today, as I'm still without a vac pump/chamber I think I am going to experiment with using iso to purge
 
Word I have the next two days off and a few tanks of tane left so I might find someone to match me on a run. How did you purge your last batch? Just putting the pan that caught the butane in a warm water bath?
 
I would propose that nobody should smoke under purged oil and if you don't have access to the proper supplies o make or buy clean oil then you should stick to solventless or flowers instead of poisoning yourself.
 
You can purge but without a vac it's impossible to get it as clean as with a vac. I mean fuck it it's not like I've been dabbing for a couple years and have already contracted a lung infection from smoking homemade whipped 'tane oil but by all means keep it up and let me know how your lungs feel next summer...

All I'm saying is that IMHO smoking non vac-purged untested oil can be extremely hazardous to your health and I would not advise it.

But what do I know, I'm no scientist right...
 
Whipping is definitely no good. Traps tane and moisture as you whip. If not vacuum is available, water bath until bubbles don't pop anymore. Throw in the oven at about 130 for a like thirty minutes. Pull out and pop bubbles with heat from a torch or heat gun. Put back in the oven and repeat until no bubbles form.
 
You should do a kief run on the nugs then run the kief with BHO. The left over plant matter could be run again or used to make edibles.

I know a guy that makes oil and he likes to collect the keif and then do the BHO run. You should be happy with your end product after that and do a lot of purging.
 
Smearing it on a j is a total waste. If you're going to go through the trouble to make it or buy expensive ass oil you definitely need to vape it.
 
I'd have to disagree. It is not a total waste. First time I scored oil it was at a festival it was 40 a g.. Not bad and put it on joint (had no dab), I was high as shit, no doubt. I didn't buy a dabber for at least 10 days and just bought mids to roll j's that I would add oil to. Def got me high as shit. Even after I got the dabber if I'm smoking on the go I will add a nice shriek if oil.

Would I make oil just for that? Probably not.. but it is not a total waste..
 
Best of both worlds is to use you J paper as a dab rag. Just wipe your dabber on the J paper after every dab so you have a clean dabber and aren't totally wasting the claim.
 
I just got my dab set up and got a quartz nail and thought that after I get paid in a week I would switch to dome less TI. The first quartz nail was $25 and it broke when I was lifting the nail out of the male male attachment. I wasn't rough with it at all so the guy gave me a new one for free. Today after my 4th dab the crystal nail broke. 4th fucking dab and I was skeptical about the nail at first but the guy guaranteed me that it wouldn't break real fast like some other nails. Should I go back to the store and hope to get a new one for free or just cut my loses? I knew I was getting such a shitty nail but never thought it would be this bad.
 
I just got new dab rig and same shit.. the quartz nail broke the next morning.. I assumed it was because it was a chilly morning and the flame instantly broke it. Who knows though.. the half a nail will do til I get paid and get a ti nail
 
I think you guys are confusing boro glass nails with quartz nail... a quartz nail can withstand quite high heat and is really the only competitor with Ti, and many people who dab quite a lot prefer quartz over ti for flavor. If your nail is breaking in the first week that you have it, it's definitely a cheap borosilicate nail.
 
Yeah most likely the case... when I bought it at this shop in Jersey (wonderland, nice place) it was hard to get the scoop on the piece cause they are so afraid of saying the wrong/illegal terms..
 
Yeah, but I thought it would last longer than it did. I told the guy I didn't want some nail thats going to break on me real quick and he said the nail wouldn't break with regular use and would with stand heat and wont break like the cheaper glass nails. So I paid more for the quartz. Now I'm thinking how can glass be any worse than the nail I got?

Definitely going to try and get a nice TI nail online.
 
I'd take high quality Quartz over Ti any day. I and most of my buddies all use domeless quartz and it is awesome. tons of flavor, holds heat well but not too well, and you can take massive globs in it. Plus i've heard about kids around here getting sick then being tested for unusually high levels of Ti in their blood. That alone is enough to keep me away from Ti

I was smoking on the way to class and randomly had this thought you may be trolling... anybody else hear any similar reports? I am in the market for a new nail nail and was considering Ti
 
Ti and quartz are comparable. Ti can get hotter and lose a little flavor with the dab, but it holds heat a little longer. As long as you avoid hearing it super hot with a propane torch and oxidizing it, you should be safe from inhaling Ti oxide which is what is claimed to be found in higher levels in some people. Definitely a hundred times better than glass. Make sure you get a name brand nail tho, there are a lot of cheap low grade ti nails that say "Mfg USA" or "Gr 2", if they say this on the nail it is a cheap Chinese low grade nail and will hardly hold heat and sometimes fuck up your dabs an tate weird...
 
Definitely not trolling, but I have no hard evidence to back it up. I still try to stick to quartz though.

On a slightly related note, how hot do you guys get your nails? I hate seeing people getting that thing beet red and hitting it right away..takes away flavor and KILLS your lungs. I feel like with a proper hit i hardly, if ever, cough. I usually wait till i cant see any glow to dab
 
oh man i love my dabs.. have been having a steady dab summer but my tolerance got so high that i had to stop with the dabs for a few weeks and stay steady with flower until i got a lower tolerance
 
Anyone else bothered by the use of the word "dabs"

in a sentence like this it makes sense-

"Would you like to go take some dabs?"

or

"How many dabs did you take"

BUT, when people use it like this it doesnt make sense-

"I bought a gram of dabs"

or

"Oh, does he have dabs"

"Dabs" are not a noun, dabbing is an action
