i posted this in media and arts but i want more people to see this

i found some great deals on these cameras

im kind of new to photography and im taking a class at school so i want to know if it would be better for me at this stage to get a d50 with the 18-70mm lens or a d70s with a 28-200mm lens.

the prices are awesomely cheap and come with more stuff and the price difference between the two isn't much. so what would you suggest i do?

thanks

d70 for sure, if you can only choose from those 2. You will grow out of the d50 fast. I would recomend buying something that you think is way over your head, because then it will last you a long time. Buy something more like a d200, or better.

i have big hands and the d70s feels so much better. but the cameras are pretty much identical. i would get the 18-70mm lens, preferbly with a d70s if possible. but for your needs you should probably go witht he d50 and the 18-70mm

uhhh well, whats your price point? Last spring i was debating between d70s and d200. sure as hell glad i got the d200. But I would definitly go for the d70s over a d50. you have a lot more control and semi pro settings on a d70s, whereas a d50 is built for amatures that dont know the simplest things about photography. Even with that statement though, the d50 is sick. you can go very far with a d50. the glass you buy for it, is what matters. i am debating getting into shooting weddings, and i want to get a d50 body, or a d70 body as a back up.

I have the d50 and I wouldn't consider myself an ameteur. Its a great camera and I love it. I will deffinitly be upgrading but not until next year. Best part is I can keep my lenses.

definatly get the d70, do not get that lens. ultra zooms are usually not the best choice

read some more reviews on them.

also what websites are they from, most cheap online deals on camera stuff are scams or get you with the mandatory extras like the battery and battery charger

i think that the screen might be a little bit bigger on the d70s, but i am not 100 percent sure. I know that there are not huge changes, they are pretty much the same camera. so if you can get a killer deal on a d70, go for it.

And i just want to say that I dont want anyone takin offense to my comments about the d50 being amature. I dont mean that the people that use them are amature. Its a hella deal for a sick nikon body, and its super nice being so light weight and compact. I just meant that the way nikon designed it was for easier use, and that they made it so people that did not have a photographic backgound could use it. its pretty simplified and it does not have a lot of the controls of some of the more expensive bodies.

all that being said, it is not the camera, its the photographer.

hate to say it but i would be careful ordering from that site. i am sensing bullshit big time. the 18-70 is at least a 300 dollar lens. might be a little lower now, cause i have not kept up with the prices. but i dont think there is any way that the body and lens can be that cheap. i would be leary, but thats just my opinion.

do not buy from that site! that fucking woman with the headset.. that picture is on so many scam sites.  a d70s with the 18-70mm lens will run you around $800-$900. for this much I would just go for the new d80 which is so sick. you could try buying one used, or whatever. fuck.

nikon is a good camera but i would recommend getting a canon. canon is a norm in the proffessional photography industry. the key difference between the two is that the CMOS sensors in the Canons are far superior to the CCD sensors in the Nikons. just a suggestion though.
