D600 Speculation over at Nikon Rumors

I'm just waiting for Nikon to release their next semi-pro level camera so I can upgrade from my D7000. I mean i'll still keep my D7K as a second body, but I'm really looking to upgrade.

I'm not sure what to even think about this new rumored D600. I know I feel I'm personally ready to upgrade to full-frame, and I could always save and spend $3k on the D800, but I think I would rather spend $1500-$2000 and put $1000-$1500 towards another lens, flash or strobes. I'm just hoping they'll keep the megapixel count low, so that it has great high ISO performance, and also I would like it to have a fast burst rate (unlike the D800). If they do all of that, I'll definitely upgrade to full-frame, if not I might consider the D400 (rumored crop sensor) so that I can get that high ISO performance and fast FPS.

Entry level full frame at a rumored very low price, seems like a good upgrade for me, I don't know about anyone else. I know they are saying that "if created" it might not have an internal focusing motor, which isn't a HUGE deal, because they're basically only making lenses with AF motors in them now, but it would be nice to have an in body AF motor so I could use my cheapo 50mm 1.8 and other cheapo lenses on full frame without manually focusing.

I know it's really quite dumb to speculate all of this stuff so early with little information, but it's fun to think about what "could be" and what they have planned. Plus I have nothing better to do than think about the new possible camera upgrades..

So post your thoughts about this new rumored D600. I know there's threads out there for the D400, but if you want to post about that too feel free.

We'll just have to wait and see!

i'll wait until the next set of rumors come in about the d600 before worrying too much about it

I know, I thought it seemed kind of odd too. I bet they do put an internal AF motor in. It really doesn't seem like such an "expense" to design in.

It wouldn't be a huge deal, but it would make it look amateurish to the consumer market. They wouldn't risk losing their, dare I say, "DVXuser" market by letting it look so similar to the entry level D3100.

the way I see this camera is essentially a d3100/3200 on steroids with fx sensor. doesn't make a lot of sense imo to have that kind of sensor without a body that I believe won't be able to fully utilize it. I think they should continue to market crop sensor at entry level photographers and leave full frame to professionals or people who can utilize it better.

who knows I might be proven wrong or change my mind if it comes out but this is my initial thought on what it could be.

Yeah that's kind of what I hope they don't do, just make a D3200 on steriods with a full frame sensor. If they do something like that, and the build quality and everything isn't up to par with what a semi-pro camera should be, then I definitely won't switch to this full frame and I'll go with the D400. It seems like the D400 is probably going to be a better buy for your money the way people are describing this new D600. Plus if they do keep the D400 DX sensor then it should have a good burst rate and great High ISO performance which is just what I'm looking for. If this D600 doesn't have the magnesium alloy body or weather sealing or anything then forget it.

yeah definitely agree with that, I bet the D400 is going to be an awesome DX camera if Nikon puts the right specs in it, 16-20mp would be good with a fast burst rate and good weather sealing. Personally I'm on the waiting list for a D800, but I could see the D400 as a backup camera if I ever wanted to go that route.
