D200 vs D90

hey guys so i have the Nikon d300 now and im looking to buy a backup camera so D200 or D90. i can get the d200 for about $750 and a d90 for about $975. Im not sure if i care too much for the video on the d90.

Express you opinions guys, thanks NS.

i say d200. I think the video could be potentially problematic. Save extra you would spend on the d90 and save towards getting some more lenses, or if you dont have it get the MB-D10 battery pack for your d300. I have on on my 300 and its so sick. I love having the vertical shutter button and the added 2FPS

D200 for sure.

D90 will most likely run into firmware issues with the video because that shit just tends to happen. Moving on. The D200 has a better flash sync speed, lower ISO, and more FPS. You are most likely not going to notice the 2 ish megapixel difference. And the D90's video just got stomped by the 5d MKII.

yeah so i guess def going with d200 i was also thinking d80 just for a cheap solution to save money but i def dont think that will work for me and the d200 is set up the same as the d300.

Get a D40x as backup. It'll pack small. D40x, 80 and 200 all use the same chip I think.

Or just save up for a D700 and the 300 will be your backup.

haha i have to say i went and tried the d40 and i immediately put it back down. i just thought it was soo badd. and the d700 is a little much for me to be spending on a second camera .

Yeah the D40 feels like a toy but the sensor is good. It's your backup - hopefully you'll never need to use it. Why not get something like the D40 that's cheap, small and light?

The video feature on the D90 isn't to shit hot.

sure it's full 720P hd BUT it only auto focus' once when the sensor is down

once the sensor is up and you start recording you have to manual focus constantly as you record.

takes some getting used to..

BUUT to answer your question

wait a month or so and get the D90 it will problem drop down from it's 1200 body only price point

The D200 is old shit and since the 700 came out it is now discontinued and no one wants that..

(funny how I just bought a D80) the 90 also has the same sensor as your 300 and 14 mp ... why bother.

put your money to better use and buy a nice 2.8 lens for your 300.

or wait for the D900 (56% physicaly larger sensor than the full frame in the 700..and I assume an entire new line of lenses)

i would just go with a d80 but its way toned down features wise. so maybe ill wait a while like your saying and go for a d90 and if it doesnt drop too much i think its just d200. im just trying to stay cheap and d90 is just putting more money into it.

In my opinion the D200 cant step to the D90

they're almost the same.

with the 700 and now the 90 being out

there is no need for the 200 in the line up

just something to think about if you are shooting pictures in the snow.

the d200 is sealed for weather/moisture protection. the d90 is not.
