all these people at my school are cutting themselfs. i was wondering why people cut themselves. like does it distract them from depression or something, my good friend is cutting herself and it sucks and i dont' know what to do.

I don't know why they are cutting themselves, but try to talk to your friend. Show her that you care, listen and try to help I guess..

 
when ppl cut themselves it takes their mind off oof the pain of depression :( i know how u feel lots of my school (both schools i have been to this year) almost all of my friends at my old school did... :( and at my new school they are all preps uhg :S:S so not so many at my new school but my best friend he does :(

^yes and no... yes for it is not good choice to do.. and no because well wait no never mind it is a stupid idea overall... but it takes away their pain ... :( yet cant they do something else like PAINT? beat the crap out of a bunching bag or do something that wont harm them or n e one else?!

that's what I mean, I used to be all about self mutilation and shit and now I look back and think why was I doing that. I could have been skiing, or doing something that actually takes away the pain and doesn't make it worse. Because when you look back on shit like that it hurts, the pain doesn't go away.

a girl i met told me she only cuts because its reassurance that shes still alive, and after a while they have a need for the pain and the blood. another girl i know and im very good friends with her told me that cutting takes away the pain of depression. and ive known many more cutters yet only one i know cut vertically and she died.

i cut myself all the time, but not purposely of course.

People I knwo who arent depressed or anythign just think its cool and apparently at my old middle school its the new fad. I am so very dissapointed in humanity.

Wow like 4 years ago on mad TV they did a skit called preaty white kids with probems and one of the girls was a cutter. I guess when people dont have skiing they get crazy, eveyone should ski.

a girl jsut moved here from NC and at her old school cutting was a big thing. I try not to talk to her about it, rather i try to have an interesting conversation to take her mind away from the cutting and depression instead of reminding her of it.

Cutting is called Self-Mutilation or SI.. Most people who cuts themselves have Borderline Personality Disorders, or shares similar traits.

all the scars i have, have good stories behind them but people who cut them selvs are gona be asked 'where did you get that scar?' and there gona have to say, 'well when i was young cutting and stabing your self was the cool thing to do'

do you know, that i am so gawth, that when i pick up a knife to cut myself, i begin to mourn the very fact that i am about to cut, and i break down and mourn mournfully. so i have never gotten to the actual act of cutting.

I cut for over 4 years and no one knew.. it started as a suicide attempt but it made me feelso much better, Ijust kept doing it... i'm pretty tolerant tophysicalpain and didn'tknow how tohandle mental pain so it wasa way to kind of transfer it.. it also kept me from suicidal thoughts... it was instant relief... then I just got addicted and couldn't stop... eventually I got help and Italked it out with my school councellor and a few friends and made deals with them that I could talk to them whenever and yea.. I'm still addicted and I think about it a lot but I've been clean for nearly 10 months and that's a REALLY long time for me cuzz itwas amazing if I made it a week before... she needs support and maybe some councelling... even if it feels awkward TALK THINGS OTU WITH HER... SHE NEEDS IT!!!!

I find it quite hard to believe that you guys think it's funny that people cut, saying it's only attention thing and pathetic. Most of time it's actually a cry for help.. You have no idea how depressed they get to..

i've cut myself 3 times, and everyone signifies a time in my life that has changed. Each one doesnt represent hardship, it represents the time in my life where i grew to be a better person. They're all 3 on my pec muscle, and every time i see them i realize the way i used to be, and how happy i am now. The cuts only did good for me in my life.

Whoever said its for attention has never EVER known someone who was trully going through depression. A very close friend of mine cut HIMSELF and i can gurantee it wasnt for attention. I'm the only person hes ever told and its a very painful situation to be in. Talking to your friend wont do jack shit. They need to run this course on their own, you just need to be supportive and reassure them that they are a good person and have friends. All talking does is make them more depressed and irritated with you. The only time a cutter will stop is when they realize what they are doing and how dumb it is, it needs to be a personal decision and no matter what anyone says will help them decide to stop

^that was me. no i have not ever actually known a close friend who did that. but in that case i guess tons of kids at my school have real screwed up lives, because honestly like ALL of them cut/or have in the past

some people cut due to emotoinal(sp) pain in their lives, because alot of people find it easyier to deal with phyisical pain the emotoinal.

Michelle i wasn't just referring to you don't worry. A lot of kids who cut themselves find it easier to deal with pain because it gets ride of emotional pain and makes it all physical which as many of us might know, is a lot easier to deal with
