Cutting Poles

You can pretty easily cut poles shoter it they're too long, but can you cut composite poles? I've heard that for some reason you can't?

go to the hardware store and get a circular tubing cutter and it will work fine, ive cut like 5 pairs of composite poles like this

not really well because they are rough and can splinter them. personally, i don't cut composite poles, but if i had to it would be with one of those tools. they cost under $5, so its not a big deal money wise. you might want to use some masking tape and cut through that.

but would it be even? nah im just going to the hardware store with mine and taking an inch off mine..ill let you know how it works. pipe circular cutter sounds like it'll be perfect

It's not that hard to cut a straight line in the same spot. Will the hardware store do it for me?

im not even going to ask. im walking in with the poles and cutting them there and if anyone says anything ill say im "just checking something. to see if the tool will be sufficient to what i need it for". then finish, smile, and walk out. they probably would help if you bought it and then asked, but i really dont need a pipe cutter more than once.

they would proly do it on table saw and house your poles and charge as muach as buying a pipe cutter cost.....

Take them to your local shop, they should do them for you.. mine did a few sets for free. Usually they wont charge you but if they do it should only be like 5 or 10 bucks.. unless they are dicks and want to charge an hour labor. I'd call your shops first to check.

I just cut my Swix Cobra Composite poles this evening. I used a regular hacksaw and had no problems at all. In fact it cut way easier that I thought it would.

my k2 poles are composite, and i just used a hacksaw. it didnt cut PERFECTLY straight, but straight enough. its probablay because i didnt have a vice or anything to hold the pole tight and everything, but it got the job done

Yes it is, unfortunately it is only a stage 2 right now. New turbo and ic next summer. I think there are a few of us on this board.

awesome... i am selling mine i think. looking for a good deal on a 4runner or something with a bit more groundclearance. even with my "rally" setup (good tires, beastly skidplates and suspension) its a bit lacking off-road. its quick as hell, but sucks in more than a foot or so of snow. where you located? you on nasioc?
