Cutting mesh from new era hats

alright all the 5950s sit way too high on my head, and i want to cut the mesh from the front to actually make it fit right. has anyone done this or have any advice on how to make it fit better?
 
ever try getting a smaller size? cutting the mesh will destroy the hat so just don't do it
 
they sit way too high on everyones head when they are brand new. wear it for a few weeks, and it will tighten up around your head and eventually the front part will stretch making it not as tall. trust me i used to think the same thing then i just got over it and eventually they all got broken in
 
yeahh fresh 5950 hats always sit way high on your head you just gotta wear it alot and break it in
 
How much do they shrink because i just bought a new era 7 1/4 and its a little to big for me. I heard putting water around the edges and letting it air dry shrinks it a bit but i dont know if it will be enough.
