Cutting down Composite Poles.

I have some compostite poles lying around my room. They are 44 inches long, and i kind of want to cut them down a little. Will the composite break and just turn crappy, or does it work just fine to cut it down?

tape off the part where you'll be cutting them and use a pipe cutter. it'll be fine. i cut down my composite poles using this method and they're fine. you might need to do a bit of sanding afterward to make sure there aren't any rough edges, but as long as you use a strong clear tape, you won't get any fraying.

I find the best way to do it is to use a coarse file. It takes a little bit, but you pretty much eliminate the chance of splitting the shaft, and the finished end is really smooth.

I could see wrapping it in tape and going at it with a hacksaw, but I'd be careful.

This is why I love the fact that the rental shops around here use Goode poles, I can always snag the size/color I want.

cover with duct tape where your gonna cut in order to stop it splintering and then use a decent hacksaw and youll be fine. I find there is more chance of it splitting with a pipe cutter as it applies more pressure than a hacksaw. All in all 10 minute job, easy..
