Custom poles

so my old man picked me up some nice 50"ers after being convinced by the guy at sport mart that 50 was the right size for me (maybe if i wanted to downhill/race?) now i'm stuck with these, so i'm gonna try to make them work.

I've already marked a spot at about 38", going to use a pipecutter at my school, what really is bugging me is grips. I was thinking about trying to find some tennis tape (apparantly you can get it in a roll or something) or maybe some bike grips that are about the right size. Opinions/Tips anyone?

After seeing what LINE is doing with their poles, I got a similar idea and I was going to toss some mountain bike grips on my poles for grips instead too because my big ass grips suck. Make sure though you add something to the top of the pole so the open aluminum end doesnt cut the new grips (maybe put a couple coins and some tape on the top, or a hard plastic cover...)

i just did this last night, you can use bmx grips and bar ends. the bar ends usually need a little modification to fit inside the pole but its not hard if you have a bench grinder or a dremel... i cut mine with a hacksaw aluminum cuts easy. i will post some pics later to show you what i mean.

yeah, i cut them down today with a pipe cutter and picked up some bike grips from canadian tire. they are almost a perfect fit, but i'm gonna need to put some tape or something on the end of the bar to widen it. i'll make sure to post pics when im done

done

these ended up at about 38", grips fit snug after putting some tape under, used a glue stick for a bit of extra hold just gotta tape up the other pole. grips are squishy and super skinny (about the diameter of a quarter?) spent $15 poles+ 10 for the grips

thanks for the point about capping the open end, that probably saved me a lot of trouble down the road. idea for using a penny was a perfect fit too! cant wait to go try them out

here's a pic of the finished product
