Custom painted skis show 'em off

I picked up some used Magnus 90s for $50 from a buddy last season. They are in pretty rough shape but I am determined to do a little art project on em this summer and fix em up.

Any of you NSers paint your top topsheets? How have they held up? Anyone ever use an epoxy top coat rather than just a clear coat? I know that there is a good write up on this, but want to see examples of your guys. These skis are going to be heavily used on rope tows, obviously the paint isn't going to hold up perfectly but I want it to stay as good as possible. Feel free to send pics of skis that have been painted and abused! https://www.newschoolers.com/news/read/How-Paint-Skis

i sharpied my edollos after tearing the whole topsheet off, they were basically albino edollos with face tats and they were dope. way too lazy to get them from the garage for pictures.

yeah, i sharpied + expoxied and it lasted pretty long. Frequent points of contact (tails, sides) have started to wear off though. Your design won't last forever but if you epoxy well enough you'll probably get two seasons out of it.

Never tried with skis, but my experience with epoxy is that sharpie ink will spread through it and become blurry. Also epoxying the whole topsheet sounds pretty heavy, but I'm sure those skis will be heavy anyways

Ok I’ll bite, I asked for “slow down” in the comments of my order of Wets last year, and I just happened to catch Emmett doing it live on his IG Live. I was stuck in NYC traffic at the time, so I was mad hyped and it turned a shitty ass day around lol. I asked for “slow down” Bcs I can still hear my grandpa yelling it at me jokingly, even tho he’s come to pass. It’s an ode to the man who told me to stay true to myself as a skier when I felt like an outcast, and that I’ll be happier for far longer than someone whose whole world revolves around playing football/baseball. Those sports end, skiing/golf is something you can do for the rest of your life essentially. He flies thru me now via this small message in the top right. Thanks Vishnu for being mad cool. Never change!

Coolest / most heartwarming thing I’ve seen on NS in a long time. Love this story.

Thanks man!! I thought it might be a lil too soft for this forum but most of the guys here have hearts so I figured I’d share haha

sharpie holds up the best no doubt. just make sure to get a good one. the jumbo sized def give a lot of juice and make a pretty dark black that holds up.

my girlfriend wanted to wrap her skis with vinyl from an arts and crafts store. help up pretty good. aroundthe sidewalls got chipped up pretty bad.

used several clear epoxy coats but it did not hold up very well, but i also thrashed them. overall not bad and if you do something simple you can do touch ups on chips and stuff when you need to
