Current music sucks peen and its sad

you are half right. popular music sucks, but not all current music is bad.

have you heard portugal. .the man's new album? its gold. there are definitely still good bands out there, you just have to look for them.

When people say "there is no good music today" I immediately think less of that person. There is so much music being released and so much of it is unreal. No matter the genre. I strongly disagree with OP.

the internet has made good music a million times more accessible than it was to every other generation before us. shut the fuck up.

The only reason everyone says that current music is shitty compared to old music is because no one remembers the old shitty stuff.

on one hand its certainly correct as before there were so many labels and the internet, it was definitely a sign of better quality when someone signed a contract.

then, some good artists probably got surpressed by that selection process and didnt make it.

now we hear so much stuff from so many bands, that its impossible to hear it all. listening to a "top 40s" show or whatever gave you a way better overview over the whole music industry in the the 60s/70s. and because there are so many internet labels / music sharing sites, people dont have that security that whatever they hear is a high quality production, so they might hate on too much of it and like some horseshit stuff that "sounds" professional with three overdubs and whatever.

and with that shear amount of bands coming up i dont see an act that came up the last few years filling huge stadiums in 30 years. thats not really an argument, just a prediction that probably will turn out wrong.

i was talking exactly the same like OP a few years back but now i just laugh whenever i read "i am 14 and like this" under a youtube video of iron maiden, led zeppelin or whatever band i like of past decades. i think a lot of people in their teens go through this time when they think their taste in music is special, what they wear is something special and whatnot. it takes awhile that noone cares about your shitty taste in music and that all is preference. speaking objectively, there is no difference between a guy liking rebecca black and another guy worshipping pink floyd. you have to introduce subjective borders to categorize these into "good" and "bad" music. let everyone do what he wants and if you dont find a good band TODAY (given that your willing to look for it a little longer), your probably a lost cause anyway.

this just shows that you have put literally no time into finding some sort of modern genre or band that you like because the variety of music that is available know is unparalleled to time period in music.

I sort of agree....but only to the extent that popular music, as in top 40, is atrocious by and large. But even there, I'll occasionally hear something that I really like. And really...it's not much different than how pop radio has sucked for 30 years or something.

Like it's been said though, there are so many avenues out there at this point to discover new music that if you're dissatisfied, you're almost certainly not looking very hard, and/or your assessment is based on emotion or associations/personal experiences. Meaning, that maybe you over-value music from a particular time in your life based on positive associations with that music/time.

My advice, bookmark a few music blogs and take a listen to music they recommend. You might be surprised. Pitchfork is a nice springboard, even if the reviews themselves lean towards verbosity/pretentiousness, I've found a lot of amazing albums/tracks/artists through that site. They've started in the last few years to be way less insular and "snobby" in terms of what they're willing to review/cover. Check it out if you haven't http://pitchfork.com

I also really enjoy this guy's youtube channel, I think his name is Anthony Fantano and the channel is called theneedledrop. He reviews all sorts of shit, and is good about taking suggestions from followers. He can be slightly obnoxious-ish at times, but all things considered, I think he does a nice job. Here you go with that link: http://www.youtube.com/user/theneedledrop

Shit man.....having to digitally dig in the crates for great music is literally half the fun in my eyes. Very few things bring me more pleasure than hearing something I've never heard before and falling in love with it.
