CU - Boulder - Dorm Advice.

Hey guys, so Im headed to Boulder next year after what has already been an awesome fucking year in Breckenridge. I was curious if anyone had any advice on dorms there. I like to be social, and stay up late, but on the other hand, I am studying Mechanical Engineering, so I'm sure I'll have a fuck ton of HW to get done each night.

Anyway, I need to pick a dorm pretty soon here, so any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I was an engineer last year in the dorms, just switched into business, and it definitely is a trade off that you gotta consider. I went into the engineering dorms. There are definitely a shitton of very strange kids in the engineering dorms, chances are that your roomate is gonna be a little strange, but i did find a group of friends that are some of the chillest kids i know and we still did enjoy ourselves. Also, the ladies in an engineering dorm....not typically on the finer end of the scale just no way around that. I kinda wished i had gone into baker, pretty much the best party dorm i spent alota time in there drinking with buddies, but i know my gpa would not have been as good as it is if i were out of the engineering dorms. Fact of the matter is you will get alot more help with engineering classes when everyone in your dorm for the most part is in the same classes and you will struggle a lot more in a place like baker with very few engineers, but it can be done. So, you just gotta decide, if you go with engineering dorms you'll have an easier time with your gpa but won't party as much as in baker...which tends to have very fine lookin women.

Right, thanks for the input. I'd like to say Im going to college strictly to be studius but thats just not the case. Its not like it would be to hard to just go party at the other dorms, but I don't know if I could handle having a total square as a roomie either. Do they try to match people up for rooms , I.E. I might get stuck with someone like my self who is dope as fuck /claim, and just happens to be smart as well?

i was in farrand last and it was sick! met a lot of cool kids, some d bags, tons of girls, food in the same building. My roomate was awesome, had a sick room. loved it, but if you're applying for housing this late its already full... anywhere around farrand field is dope, like baker libby chey ho. just dont go for will vill or kitt if you can

Yeah some of my best friends are from my engineering dorm. And its not like you won't have a good time at CU in an engineering dorm i was still constantly partying in other dorms all the time. I just spent just about no time in my room ever. I had two room mates, one was real chill we just hung out in other crowds, the other one i never actually had a full conversation with...he was, different.

yea get a dorm around farrand field, i applied to them all but didnt get in and got placed in kitt west which isnt bad cause i have a balcony shared with another room and surrounded by people who like to party. also kitt dining hall just upgraded and got a burrito bar which is a plus.

i was in willard last year. it was pretty shitty, but it was in a good location. if i were to pick any dorm to be in i would pick farrand or libby. however, since you are an engineering major, it might be nice to be in the engineering dorms. they are all in good locations and it will be easy to get help on work and stuff if you need it.

Im a freshman in mechh E now and its really not bad once you get the hang of it. Im in willvill and its really not that bad, it was definitely not my first choice however. I know some wicked good skiers who live in the engineering quad and some of my good friends are there. People party in every dorm, youd be surprised. No matter where you live you are gonna meet some chill kids and everyone skis so no problem there. i would say go for those around farrand field or the quad but no matter what youll be fine. And as far as school goes dont take Geen 1300, computing, your first sem the teach is shit so is the first sem physics teach. Be ready for a different aapproach to calc. But if you do your hw and really work on doing it right you will keep at least 3.0. PM if you wanna know anything else.

he should live in the engineering dorms b/c when he brings a hottie back all of the strange kids will think he is a god

So if i want to apply for the farrand hall it says i have to do the rap program. Is that just taking like one or two liberal arts classes? So what do i do for that cause that is my first pick so far. And any other recommendations for alternative choices? I dont really want to be in the engineering dorms.

For sure apply to Libby, Farrand, or Baker. Im sitting in my room in Kitteridge as I type this and I greatly regret living here.

hahah, you're so wrong. skiied 111 days last year, 16 credits both semesters. didnt have a car half the year. gotta learn how to mkae it work

pretty sure rap programs is just taking classes that you would normally take, but there smaller and the classes are in your dorm which is a good way to meet people

Thatd be great advice... If i had any idea who that was.

Anyway, thanks for the advice guys, I think the engineering dorms will be good for me. Im good at math and science, but it never hurts to have people around that are way better at it haha.

To the guy who said you can't ski outa Boulder, all I gotta say is where there's a will there's a way. Im from Fort Collins so Im used to sitting on I-70 for hours. I sure will miss walking 1 block to the gondola though...

Fuck man, School is going to be a bitch after a year of no mental stimulation... At least I haven't been smoking much weed...

i'm not saying you can't get up there and ski as much as you want, just saying dealing with the multiple hour drive in trafic to and from the gaper packed resorts gets old right quick when your used to the western slope.

I'm also applying to CU Boulder as a freshman next year and it's one of my top choices. I'll also be a mechanical engineering major so can anyone tell me what the classes and the school in general are like for that? Thanks in advance for the advice.

kitts not that bad. im sitting in kitt west right now its good. I also got stuck wiith a balcony and a cluster where everyone likes to party hard which is a plus.
