My best friend and ski homie for life left me this year. I need new squad. I'm good with camera and improving on skis.

Also who's hype for all the new face/infrastructure

hyped af for the Backyard but hope they bring a bomb park this year INCLUDING JUMPS. I could try and shred with you but we just moved to Cleveland so my days at Crystal are going from every weekend to xmas break and presidents day and maybe a few other odd weekends. :(

Yeah for real though. Good news was Crystal stepped up their rail game last year to make up it felt like. Basin St. was fun af to lap and the blue lift fatty tube was a sick edition. Hyped to see the propane tank line this year too.

I personally think "The Backyard" is gonna be pretty meh... I could be proved wrong, and would be stoked if I were -- but seeing the terrain in that general area prior to them putting it in I'm not too optimistic. It'll probably just serve as a transportation point between the North Face & The Ridge; consisting of mellow, boring runs that are similar to those that exist on both of those already.

I'm hyped to hear that you enjoyed the park last year even with the absence of jumps though. I worked park there for the past three seasons and we always seemed to have one hand tied behind the back, sort of speak.

That being said, I enjoyed working there and the guys still there are rad as shit. They're hard working dudes and will continue improving off what you saw last year. If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to shoot it their way on-hill, part of the reason why we're out there and I always enjoyed getting feed back from the other riders.

I'm not certain on the jumps this year, I havent heard anything about that..but I know "The Backyard" developments is putting a sizable dent in any other budgets, such as terrain park. They are working hard & gettin' by regardless, just saw a picture of a new feature they were welding up the other day. They're gonna make it fun this season. See ya'll on the hill around the holidays, stoked to come back and shred Crystal.

I agree on the Backyard deal - it probably won't be anything too crazy considering there's a pretty mellow slope there, but it will still be cool to have a few new runs. I definitely thought you guys did a great job with what you had last year though. Stoked to see what other creative stuff you guys put out this year (cough cough would love to see a Y-rail made of a few 10ft sections cough cough). That closeout was pretty creative though, cool to see that slide (no pun intended) with management. Honestly loved the setup in Basin last year, could've lapped that forever.

Few things. Big ups to the crew, you guys work hard with what you've got. I know the backyard will be similar, but if I ever get bored, that's a few more acres to explore with side hits and trees. North face is mellow but you can find fun shit if you look for it.

Does the terrain park crew have an Instagram or Facebook? I know quite a few resorts do that and it would be sweet to see the features and here about plans, or help out.

I miss the jump line but kudos to the crew for getting creative. That long quarter pipe/bank was fun to get creative on, along with some of the rails ( that close out had me fucked). Sadly though, there's not much you can do off a ten footer like we had towards the end of the season. So that meant going over to teddys turn and building a booster off the utility building roof lol

Oh yeah, in no means against new terrain, I've been skiing Crystal since I was 7 years old... only so much to explore on such a small resort. I just think it's kinda gimmicky like most of what Crystal spews out to the public. But-- It'll be one of the first areas I'll go check out when I come back, so guess I drank the kool-aid haha.

Haha yeah we had so many comments from other areas of management who aren't familiar with anything but the down-box, down-rail, down-box mold.

"Isn't the rail supposed to be going---um downhill."

"What the fuck is that L thing."

"How're you supposed to hit that."

But thanks for the kind words, stoked to hear that. Unfortunately I won't be working park there this year so direct your suggestions their way. I think if you e-mail Crystal about park it'll get directed to the park manager, RJ.

First off, go to Cannonsburg. At least once this season, end of story.

I see you're from Ludville, Crystal is at least an hour drive for you then. Cannonsburg probably won't be all that much further than Crystal & it's cheap on weekdays / nights.

Hate to steer people away from the home mountain but Cannonsburg is doing incredible things with the space they have. A couple of the park crew dudes & I took a day trip down there last season and had a fucking blast, even when the weather/conditions were sub-par. It'll make you a better rider, you'll learn new tricks just for the simple fact that the features are burlier, set-up really well and you can hot lap till you're exhausted.

No the terrain park doesn't have a Instagram page or Facebook page by my current knowledge. Periodically last season I was updating our builds / changes here in regionals but since I'm not involved anymore idk what kind of information system they'll have.

Yeah that tiny ass jump caused us, and Crystal a bunch of problems. I have a ridiculous statistic for you... 12 people were hauled away from that tiny thing by ski patrol in the first Friday it was open. People just went bat-shit crazy cuz it was the first jump we were allowed to build all season. Bombing it from the top, trying flips and other dumb shit.

As soon as we opened it we wanted to tear it back down just for the sheer nervousness it was causing us.

But what did they / we expect? "There's finally a jump! --- I'm gonna go super hard."

I think the fact it was so small lessened the fear factor of it also, making people not as afraid of trying stuff.

Lesson learned I guess, everything is good in moderation. Either start the season off with em'--- have appropriate feature progression OR not have them at all. Unfortunately for you guys, I wouldn't be surprised to see the latter of those two.

Yeah crystals about a 40 min drive from my house.

The jump deal upset me, I watched many a person send it to flat and concise themselves. And exactly as you said they need to progress throughout the season. Obviously they can't start out with 40, but maybe a few mellow rollers and such....but resources are being put elsewhere. If cannonsburg is good as you say/looks I'm gonna get my ass down there a few times this winter

Been skiing crystal my whole life. Parents own a house in the area.

Dont expect any changes in the park from the upper management. The park crew does what they can with the rules/budget they are given, but a lot of the executives at crystal are the definition of abdominal.

I would be surprised if there are jumps this year. They dont care enough about the park scene to pay for better insurance to cover their asses. Even if they did have jumps, they would be flat take offs and be put on Tuck's. Tucks is the worst spot for a terrain park on the mountain. Side sloped with not much room. Too bad Cheers is a popular run and nastar is still a thing. That would be a pretty good spot for a jump line.

Dont expect much from Crystal. Rails are pretty fun and the resort has a homey feel, but Ive been let down too much by them to even think they will do something significant to their park and give the crew a better budget.

My squad and I are alpine racers but we ski park in our off time. Our home hill is Crystal so we're there most of the week, could meet up with you sometime.

And a suggestion for crystal... they should do a natural park like Shanty Creek. It's cheap and really sick! They could put it right in the Glacier Valley Glades.
