Crystal Mountain: Why the 750$ season pass?

Teafast is very confused over the price for a season pass to Crystal Mountain in Washington. The cheapest unlimited price for me would be 810$ after tax. This price does not even include access to Crystal's on-mountain gondola, this would cost 100$ more to add. A large part of my anger towards this price is due to the fact that I don't think Crystal Mountain wants young (late teen-early 20 college aged) people at their mountain. The cutoff for an adult is 16 (you have to be 15 for the youth pass) and the mountain offers no College Discount whatsoever. Almost every other mountain offers a college pass. The price to ski alta unlimited as a college student is 600$, and that's for ALTA, arguably the best mountain to ski in America. Where I live, Maine, you can get a pass to Sunday River, Sugarloaf, and Loon for about 350$.

So you may ask: "Why not ski at a different mountain?" In Crystal's defense, it is the best mountain I have skied in Washington. Snoqualmie is a butthole, and Stevens Pass is just too far away from where I go to school. (Stevens Pass price for a College Pass is 300$) Even Snoqualmie Gold (Pass to get 5 free days at Crystal) doesn't offer a college discount.

Crystal is a part of Boyne, and I am just wondering why Boyne chose Crystal to be the mountain they gouge people at. SO NS. Thoughts? Concerns? Don't give a fuck?

For those too lazy to read: OP mad at Crystal for 800$ season pass, wants answers

Because Kircher says fuck you, thats why. Crystal has the terrain and private ownership to charge whatever they want, so they do. If you dont like it, have fun at scummit or whipe ass.

The sad truth

Without any real competition T-Line charges $900 for 3 months of summer. With the big Seattle market and limited competition Crystal will probably still sell plenty of their jacked up passes.

I still think there is something to be said for having no student season pass discount. Why have that only at Crystal? Expensive prices is one thing, offering no college discount is kinda gutless

mount baker charges the about same amount... not really that unheard of. but it does piss me off, the only reason baker makes any money is off their damn pass holders and the ownership treats us like garbage.

I remember going to Crystal late last year (April 25th) I think. And apparently their official season ended the 20th, and it was technically NEXT season. So instead of getting on the lift with my pass, I had to pay 40$ for a late season ticket

That has to be the single most retarded thing I have ever heard

that is unreal. those are the times i think it's right to take to social media and be the squeaky wheel cause that's the only way to bend their ear

I didn't read any of the thread and about the first 3 sentences of the OP.

How old are you OP?

Every resort has expensive pass prices, which resort are you refering too thats so cheap?

And your agruement about not wanting young people is invalid because full adult passes for 25-60 is usually more expensive then under 25.

Dude u got analy reamed on that one

Ever since they installed the gondola Crystal's rates have gone up and up. I went to school in Tacoma and always dreamt of getting a pass there, but it was never feasible. My business was always done with Alpental/Snoqualmie instead. And truthfully, I really enjoyed it there. Alpental has some great terrain. It kind of blows my mind that you can time a Epic Local Pass for under $600 and have access to so many different resorts in places all over the country and Crystal Mountain expects you to pay $800 just for them. Kircher runs both Snoqualmie and Crystal too which is strange.

He's talking about Stevens which is a solid mountain for almost a third of the price

young people don't make resorts $$$:

-massive sense of entitlement, as seen here (what i have to pay full price??? no college pass?? this is bullshit. i've been skiing here since my dad busted a nut, etc)

-typically act like tools and get themselves broke off...ask any patroller what the most dangerous demographic on the hill is. yep 15-35 males

-are too broke to purchase lessons, gear, food, BEER, rentals from the establishments

-are usually mobile so not tied down to one particular resort

crystal for the most part got southern puget sound on lock down son so they can charge the premium price. place is expensive as shit to run.

tl;dr if you don't like the price don't buy it

ONE MORE THING

-young people like terrain parks, which cost an arm and a leg to build, insure, and maintain. basically need another ~20 people to run the fucking place. not worth it in crystals case obvi because they basically don't have a park

bring the downvotes for talking truth

I am 19 years young.

New England College Pass (3 resorts for 325$), the fact that Alta is 200 dollars cheaper seem kinda ridiculous.

It all depends on location and what the age cut offs are.

That being said if Stevens is cheaper, ski there? Get a job at the resort? Volunteer for a pass? Lots of ways around it.

15-35? That's a huge range bud. And obviously they are going to be the most dangerous, since they can actually ski hard they have a much much higher chance of injury. That's just common sense.

Let's see... You're getting a half price pass whilst smack dab in the middle of the easiest part of your adult life, paying shit for bills and neck deep in strange. You poor thing, let us crowd around you and sing a song of sympathy for the ages to get you though this fucking travesty.

Love & Kisses

-someone who pays full price while also being financially fingerbanged by every facet of life haha

who said anything about me getting a half priced pass?

Chairlift due to be replaced next gets destroyed by an avalanche, which was intentionally set by the wife of the resort owner, via heli and bomb. How much was the lift insured for?

Truth! Especially after already having a shitty year where they couldn't get into the black to save their lives. I love the terrain of Crystal but management their is really doing their thing to offset the love

You answered your own question. If you think Snoqualmie sucks, check out Alpental. From what I've heard it has better terrain than the rest of Snoqualmie.

That's where I skied the majority of last year. Great terrain compared to the shit skidmark that is Summit

snocompton does have a college discount, unfortunately it is no cheaper than the regular teen price. However it is cheaper once you are over 18 using the college discount than the regular priced pass.

A season's pass from Hunter Mtn is $799. That's 50 cents per vertical foot.

At that rate I'd cost less than a quarter. GiGGiTTY!!

but really the prices are outrageous.

baker is the same deal,no college pass and the pass is about the same price..however both resorts have more terrain to offer than any other resort in the state,so thats why,and baker gets so much snow its worth it

boyne can suck a massive dick in general, i've been a passholder and an employee and i've been treated equally in both positions - like shit

stevens is the best managed mountain in washington even with their fucked up parking situation on the weekends. 300$ college pass and some nice terrain and bc access. crystal is hard to beat terrain-wise but so many yuppie pricks there

In all honesty you can do early deals and shit but it doesn't help that much. The terrein is great but prices just suck there. Was a good mountain at one point

OP just needs to buy the Loon/SR/Loaf pass because he doesn't live in Washington, he lives in New England.

But for real, the student/college passes for SR/Loaf are killer prices.

whistler is $1669 for the early bird, $2000 full price. you're doing fine with $750 bud.

some of you sure are overeager to bag on the OP here

the student pass to whistler is 550 if you buy it now and 650 if you buy it any time after nov 14, i just checked

i imagine this was an honest mistake on your part but come on..

*GASP*

You mean they aren't giving you a MASSIVE discount to your first choice for no reason?

The funny part is that you'll still pay it though, because IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT! You even said so yourself the "affordable options" aren't good enough for you. You simply cannot have it both ways OP. You chose the best but you want it for the price of the shitty mountain you hate- which is priced like that for obvious reasons. The truth is that $800 is a fucking steal for Xtal. Hell, Stratton is DOUBLE that and the mountain sucks donkey balls. Magic's pass is $500 a year for fuck's sake and they're only open 4 days a week. I don't mean to rip on you because yes, coming up with 8 bills totally sucks at any age... But such is life man. Crystal is a killer mountain and believe it or not $800 is a goddam bargain for a pass like that. If you don't like it, go patrol with Kim K and tell her what you think or get touring and earn your turns for free.

crystal is better than alta, it's steeper, less bumped out, has less people and is bigger. if you want to save money on a pass stevens and snoqualmie, if you want to ski crystal and the best terrain in the US PNW then you gotta pay to play. their passes have always been expensive, even ten years ago it was around $800.

Didnt i see something about crystal not letting anyone bring bagged lunches into the lodges?

To Huck Norris: I just want to know why Boyne singles out CRYSTAL as the mountain that they choose to be over the top expensive, and not even offer a slight college discount, its not like Boyne as a whole does offer that sort of discount. The affordable option (Snoqualmie) is simply a butthole. Id love to go to Stevens but it's just too far away from Tacoma.

To Gohamsam: Yes you did.
http://www.powder.com/stories/brown-bags-welcome/

Other than the much smaller, Cypress Mountain, in BC, Crystal is the ONLY BOYNE resort with no discount for a college pass. What's the logic of not having one? Surely it would drive more college students to your resort, and it isn't the only mountain in the greater Seattle area.
