Crystal mountain freeride

there was some silly thing at skibowl this weekend, but since it hasn't snowed there in a month, I figured it would be kind of gae

I will be there. Last year was fun.

I talked to Krush over the weekend about the Uber Booter at Alpental, he said they may do it as invite only. Last year they cancelled the skier day cause no one showed but me and Chris I think...

I think the weather might have had something to do with no one showing up... also snoqualmie doesn't seem to advertise their shit that well

ill be there, but im not sure if im old enough to enter, but ill deffnetly be there to wtach if i cant enter.

Yea, they have a junior category. Last year there were only four of us but there should be more this year since its ifsa now. and the winner of the juniors won it overall.

sounds quite intriguing...although i know id get dominated by guys throwing 50 ft backflips. how much is the entry fee?

True, I forgot about that crappy rain at Uber Booter

The Website for the Crystal Comp is:

www.mountainchallenge.org

I think as long as you qualify, it probably doesnt matter how old you are... Last year, one of the Juniors probably did ski the best run. Kunz slid a huge rock jib. The Sick Bird went to Jake Rothfels from Utah who through a lawn dart front flip like 70-100 ft. Other than that, it was primarily technical cliff dropping.

Last year Brian Gavin filmed at the Crystal Comp. I dont see a promo up from the event but he has videos posted that he made for me and a few other guys that skied at the event last year.

www.myspace.com/briangavin

Since I only filmed with him after the event, most of my shots are at the comp, on the uber booter, or in the rain... oh and some in Wisconsin.

well, I still have a big fat tumer in my leg. would not jump off anything over 20 ft let alon flat out charge, and don't see the reason to waist $100.

Best place to film from is up on the shoulder between the Throne and the King. If you bring a tri-pod and can zoom, the shots from there are rad. You can also tap into the judges radio channel so you know when people are dropping in and which way they are going.

^^^ Is that the best place to watch from? Hows crystal BC policy do you need gear to go out. Just curious I have my shit I just want to know a sick spot to chill and watch the comp...

So is it 50 to qualify including lift ticket? Or probally 50 plus lift ticket then more money for next round? I don't know Ive never been to one of these before... If it's going to be about the same to compete or watch, I might as well try and win some cash.

there's usually no patrol there to enforce it, but maybe on the comp day there might be.

i think the sign only says "recommended".

obviously its your choice how safe you want to be.

Don't curse it. WSDOT shows snow level not getting higher than 4500 feet for the next week, and a majority of it is well lower than that. Positive vibes, could be real good... and all fresh...

Entry Fees: $50.00 Qualifier -- Thursday, March 22, 2007 (all men skiers not pre-qualified)

$145.00 Skier Competition (men, women)

$125.00 Snowboarder Competition (men)

$100.00 Skier Competition (juniors)

includes freeride registration, gift bag, welcome reception, swag party, awards ceremony.

Lift tickets are $35 per day, if you get them through the comp.

Cost is less than IFSA, as I did Snowbird 2 weeks ago. Qualifier was $100 and main event was $175, yet the purse is the same.

Shit was crazy. They held the the first two rounds in the snorting elk bowl. Conditions were shitty so quite a few people were survival skiing... Yesterday there were some people that try'd to huck a couple 20 footers and ate shit. Best run was probaly this guy who pointed it from the top and straight lined the whole run going crazy fast. Anyways good times someone post results when possible.
