Hate on the clothes all you want and the shitty kids emulating their favorite skiers poorly. I feel like not too long ago Newschoolers was hating on kids in super long tall tees that could barely ski and were fucking up the park and everything. They just dress differently and ski and bit differently now due to what is in fashion.
I think a decent amount of what the Bunch and the "new wave" is doing is incredibly kooky but there is also a lot of tricks that have never been done before that are absolutely bonkers. People get so hung up on arm movement that they forget how difficult it is to actually flex skis like that or the edge/body control it takes to pull some of those tricks off. Maybe some aspects and aesthetics are borrowed from skate boarding but it still takes a ton of skill and creativity to apply it to skiing.
So yeah fuck those guys for being original and doing their own thing. That's not what skiing is about apparently

OP is fucking retarded for trying to bring this topic up, and i think the way some of you said "old dudes" shouldnt have a say in skiing or on NS is fucking disrespctful and literally one of the stupidest things i've heard in a long time. with every new era there is going to be hate, and theres going to be people who dont want it to change, but it is, and everyones gonna have to fucking deal with it, or bolster what they think is good for skiing. However, that doesnt mean you have to be a dick about what you think. cant we just all hate snowboarding instead?

The whole realm of skiing would be a lot more tolerable and entertaining if the skiers weren't scared to express themselves. As of now, they're stuck to a few "love everyone and everything" sound bites due to fear of retaliation from sponsors and other industry douches who feel everything needs to be 100% PC and supportive. Its sad to see people being forced to be fake for the sake of not upsetting oversensitive tools.
If being critical was that detrimental then park skiing would have never existed in the first place. Grow a pair and stop being fucking pussies.

I am a crusty old skier dude, I have retired my tight racer ski pants from the eighties, retired my one piece ski suit from the nineties, and have moved into this "new wave" 21st century of skiing and honestly, I dig it. I still have a little parallel in my turns but have added a little more "swerve" since. Hate on this, or hate on that, it doesnt make you any better of a person to judge someone that is out doing the same thing you are doing, especially if they are having fun. Wear what you want to wear, ride what you want to ride, at the end of the day we are all going to end the same.

In 2004-2014 freeskiing was a really exciting thing.
Progression was amazing, style was awesome.
I remember lapping mammoth park in 2008 and there was a gaper with a huge smile and look of amazement on his face watching everybody hit the last kicker. He looked stoked as fuck to see how aesthetic the tricks ppl were doing were. Another time some guy asked me to do a helicopter for him and his kid to watch. I feel like today the ns freeskiing wave has crashed and rolled back into the ocean. Freesking is still cool, but its not the underground secret stokehouse it used to be.
More to ops point: a large portion of americans grew up without getting smacked by their parents for being spoiled brat cunts, and today they have egos and a sense of righteousness hundreds of times larger than what they deserve. If the internet is a means to trim those pompous egos down to size, than i say by all means, let them give the entitled twats a reality check.
An example would be this: if a large portion of one gender believed that their emotions and feelings mattered as much or even more than facts and logic, do you really think they shouldnt be shit on and cut down to size?

Ski events used to be a fuckin party! Everyone had individual personality, style, attitude and everyone had shit to say to the camera- made you want to know them. Now personality in skiing is almost non-existent.....When was the last time you heard a pro skier say something on camera that wasn't "out here in ___ conditions are great everyone is killing it".... Skiers would go huge and features 60+ feet in the air. Everyone this year is saying ohh kimbo sessions is the greatest ski event of all time... progression is at its finest... features included two 30 foot jumps and an up rail with 3 feet of amplitude. I think the most amplitude i saw was like 25 feet up on a hip.
Event coverage of off-hill antics were just as interesting as the skiing it self - don't believe me look up any early JOI news story published by Schmuck . You'd hear stories of partying with models, getting kicked out of bars for pranks, breaking stuff, involving police, three sums with pro hoes, getting bailed out of jail with Jon's special keys. Now I bet they all sit on their phones, in a living room, eat broccoli and go to bed early.
Candide's event from 2007 had larger and more creative features than any event in the past 4 years.
Crusty ass rant over. New wave.... step it up, grow some balls and ski faster.
