Crushed vertebrae disc

rode all last season with lower back pain, have compacted spine several times before and a recent x ray has revealed a crushed vertebrae disc, around a quarter of the height of the rest. i'm a big guy (probably part of the problem) so i don't mind the 1cm reduction in height, but i was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and how long it took them to regain lumbar support and eliminate pain?

mmm I cracked one and I never recovered fully I could still jump and everything but you just start to get all sore and rusty when you get older,

my back is gonna be so fucked when im older...i currently have around 6 herniated disks in my back...some diagnosed as "snorals nodes" no idea on spelling but thats where the herniatation actually goes into the bone instead of pancaked out....but i still jump and see no reason to stop as long as there is no pain...some people call me stupid...i say i dont give a fuck

Honestly your fucked...as someone with all sorts of disk problems - broken c5, compressed/fused/herniated lumbar disks and hernaited c5 - you better start yoga and strenghtne your core NOW

or just get used to pain...it is going to suck and it is going to get BAD as you get older

I went through a war of chronic pain and a regular hot yoga practice and healthier life style eliminated about 80% of my pain - that 20%still sucks and some days I have sciatica that feels like aleg amputaion

I can ski fine, golf, wake board etc....but recovery time has increased

just be aware that pain is just pain and do not let it define your life

good luck

imagine the news headline "senior citizen caught with weed" upon interview old guy says, "i'm old, i ache and i don't give a fuck, why should you?"

cheers dude, am seeing a physio tomoz about the core muscles and further review of xrays. am already older than most on this site at 28, and being 6'4'' 200 doesn't help but i can't do anythin about that. good words to live by there, thank fuck for pain meds i'd hate to not be able to ski the things i like to. chur.

^my problems started when I was 27 - and the best thing I did was to get off the couch, and only take meds when it go really bad. I also quit puffing, and that helped so much (much more than I wanted to admit at first) - Having a clear head and keeping a strong torso will help you much more than most of the kids here whose advice would be to kick back with some oxy's a blunt and some xbox.

If your disk becomes irrated it will cause all sorts of reference pain in other areas of the body. Watch out for unexplained soreness, or charlie horse/muscle knot type pain - it could be the nerve that is being affected is being hit by the disk.

Take a look at some neurolgy charts and learn about what to expect - for my c5 it is my shoulder blade area.

Sometimes a well timed anti-inflammatory shot like toridol will prevent any real pain at all.

sorry for the unsolicited advice

Imagine a place where you can get marijunana legally for pain like this...Oh wait, that's right! It does exist! It's called CALIFORNIA!
