Cruise Control

Your car is a bigger POS than mine. The rubber bands in your engine are going to snap way before the cruise control does enough damage to be noticeable.

its good for your car(says my faja). you also get better gas mileage. but when youre on hills it shifts more than it should.

I've never heard of cruise control messing with your car. All it does is increase gas millage because the car can run lower revs.

I use mine all the time coming back from skiing, so I don't get greedy on the open highways and end up with a nice big ticket.

ive only heard that it can be bad for your car when you use it for other than highway/ speeds in excess of 45mph or so. i know a kid that used to only use cruise control and even when the speed was like 15-20 hed try and set it but then finally figured out it wouldnt work until you hit 25-30 or so

The only time it is bad to use cruise control is in heavy traffic, and slippery weather conditions.

It will cause no problems otherwise.

it doesn't ruin your car.

it doesn't ruin your wallet (both with gas and tickets).

...but don't use it where it's hilly. it will accelerate like a maniac.

I received two speeding tickets on major interstates going 80 in a 65, so i can not afford to get another one. Now all i do is set cruise on 73 ish and i have noticed that i get about 70 extra miles to a full tank (only highway driving).

cruise control is my best friend for long highway driving, i just hit 74 (in a 65) then hit cruise control and chill no tickets, no road rage, no wasting gas

Consumer Reports did a study on this using a 4 clinder Toyota Camry sedan.

The Toyota average around 35 MPH on the highway at 65mph. Going 75mph dropped the gas mileage to 30mpg. Slowing to 55mph gave the car around 40mpg ratings.

I feel you there but at the same time it makes going long distances so much easier and you can convoy easier also. It also helps those of us who keep going faster on open stretches of pavement.

the only thing about that is if your coming home from skiing, your usually tired. not having to worry about gas/break so much, that like 2x more likely to fall asleep at the wheel

same here, unless someone is in a hurry and theyr screamin down the highway then i just get in behind them and you get home alot quicker and you dont have to worry bout the po po cuz the guy in front got you covered so the police will get him before they get you...

works everytime..

oh and yea whoever said cruise control was bad for your car, completey made a fool out of themself!!!!

The only time that cruise controll can be bad for your car is when ur breaking in a new engine. This is because when you are in the process of breaking it in variations in ur RPM's are good for ur engine. Its not necisarrily bad on ur engine its just better to break it in using varying rpm's

Even then, there is debate within the automotive world if a "break-in" is really needed now with modern machining tolerances being so accurate.

if you have a car with adaptive cruise youre set for traffic. Just use that baby and watch a dvd, some new cars even have lane assist. Adaptive cruise, combined with lane assist would be real nice for taking short naps on the highway

True, there are all sorts of theories on the best way to break in engines or whether it is needed at all. I was just speaking generally and that is a just a possibility of where the people who say it is bad for your car could be coming from

cruise control is no fun...  it makes me sleepy and i dont get to places as fast, and i never like how my car slows down and speeds up...  it just makes me uncomfortable.

that is so me...i fall asleep a lot coming back from the mt, cause i wake up at 6 every morning to beat the slow drivers that are going up. i know that its bad, i even have to pull over like half the time to take a nap, then i just usually nap for around 2 hrs haha..
