Cross country

word, me too.i was offered a spot on a competitive team, but decided i liked freeheeling better.
but it's amazing training, no matter what

Why, whats wrong with what we do?

And to answer the OP, yes i run XC. I love it. I was crap this year at regionals though because i had the flu a few days before and it just killed me. its hard to explain the feeling you get when you run XC. When you pass people and get a PR and place better then you did last year, you feel a great sense of accomplishment. Hard to explain though.

YES FOR CROSS COUNTRY! i ran varsity as a freshman! haha i also cross country skiied when i was younger till i was about 11 so when i started alpine skiing i got good really fast!

i ran back in high school and it was super fun. even when you had to run in the cold rain it was just so much fun. the team wasnt super huge so it got to be a close community. running was also just a good way to stay in shape and being in shape just makes you feel better all around.

i run, well you know I CAN'T SEE so i'm real good but just can't win cuz I CAN'T SEE! it would be fun hangin out with everyone if could see them but I CAN'T SEE! so all in all, well you know!

XC is the ultimate mental game. its all about how hard are you willing to push yourself.

The feeling of crossing the finish line knowing that you have run a good race is one of the best in the world. you can't see or talk straight, you're head is spinning and all you can think is i'm fucking done. personally after a good race i feel euphoric for a good 20 min after.

however when you let yourself think "why the fuck am i doing this" during a race or you bitch out and don't run as hard as you could its pretty frustrating crossing the finish line and thinking well fuck i could have run alot faster.

for the first comment, go try it yourself, and if you don't think that its hard then you arn't doing it right

i ran like 200 yards and i was out of breath so i can respect um my friend got 5th at states this year and hes a junior

i run, i'm not very good, i do sx to stay in shape for skiing and track.

this was a hardass last season for me, i had a surgery, 2 injuries and i got sick twice. the whole thing just wasn't awesome. last year i ran about 20 minutes though, not fast, but not the worst.

i run low 2's in the 800 though, i like track alot.

Almost got to go to NTN in 06. Nike contacted us but its hard when you run in a state with central catholic and Jesuit. There were a lot of really good teams in the west

I loved XC - although I now have a lot of broken cartiladge in my knees because of improper training techniques implimented by my coach for a couple years. Now it's painful to walk up and down stairs after a day of skiing, I'm only 25, and knee surgery is never a really good solution because it's not extremely successful, so go easy on your knees!

18:15, but that was last year. My OCD lesion that could keep me out of skiing for a while is probably due partly to the constant pounding of XC. I don't regret it though a bit. Don't think I can run much anymore.

And for the haters, at least learn a bit more about the sport before labelling it as stupid because of the short shorts, the supposed lack of teamwork (couldn't be more wrong), or the fact that we're running for fun.

I'm assuming 5k?

Im from Canada and I ran in Ontario Champs, so I geuss like a state champs.

I was like 50th or something. But I still ran a 17:09

you cant respect someone that is most likely in better physical shape then you ever will be?
i run, im not too good because i dont try anymore.
pretty good at distance running, last time for a timed mile in 6th grade i ran it in 5:56 (claim?)
its a really tough sport, takes a lot of drive and devotion

I definitely couldn't ski productively if it weren't for XC. I'd be in crap shape by the time it got snowy, but with XC in the fall, my legs just feel good all day.

My Cross country team is so amazing, we have so much fun. My PR is 17:15 so far. We had the state champ on our team this year which was pretty awesome.

I kinda am, or better a ex CC runner. As a sophmore I was running like 17:20's and then this year I was on some medicine that ruined my running season.. so I took this year off and raced Cyclocross and I think I like it better then CC..

Its as demanding as CC but alot more fun because your on a bike.. and the running sections of the Cyclocross races I always dominate on.. but I am better at Cyclocross anyways.. I ran Jr olympics 3 years ago in cross country and I was like 153 or somthing and this year I am going to Nationals for Cylocross and I am pretty sure that I will be top 40..

but I miss the team aspect of CC.. those teams always seamed to have the most fun.. all the Cyclocross kids are all just shaved leged spandex asses that count every calorie that they eat..

Im in middle school so we only run 2 miles and I did 5:28 pace and came one second away from breaking our course record!

yo thats legit but dude train out of season cuz you could easily cut a minute off that time and going to nationals in your junior year would be ill

my school just won class c new york state championships in xc!! also they qualified for federations, where they take the states nine best school regardless of class to compete against each other in order to qualify for nationals. im super proud of them, especially cause a lot of my friends are on the xc team

nice, my middle school team in ct just finished up their season and we won state championships in 2007,2008, and got second in the state this year, we're legit

dude no way im calss AA from new york only one of our guys made it to states tho and def not federations but we had two guys last year that made it to feds Greg Redfield and mike cauwles prolly never heard of them but thought i'd throw it out there

My good friend runs cross and is the best in my school. I went to his district meet and I decided that runners are the biggest group of masochists I've ever seen. Everyone looked in pain

My senior year of high school our team was kick ass. I ran 16:02 with the next four guys under 16:35.. broke the 4A state record for largest margin of victory between 1st and second place. We should have gone to nationals but our coach was a goon and had to bone his combodian lover he found naked in the forests. Running in general sucks but it's a co-ed sport (awesome) and with cool kids on the team, goin on runs is a blast. Trail running is the shit, I dont think I could have lasted 4 years on the team if not for the endless mountain trails close by.

430 for a single mile? yeeks! i ran 433 in grade 8!

i stopped running last season, just got too lazy and wasnt feeling it. ran provincials in grade 11

yeaaa maine XC runner! what school you run for?
And middle school cross country is nothing like high school cross country which is nothing like college XC. but a 528 pace is a 528 pace regardless, so props.

what school you go to? im from holland patent. and yeah any school in AA has no chance against Fayetville-Manlius cause they're just running machines there. did you hear their girls took 1-5 at states?

8k - 27:30 so middle of the road DIII varsity

Haven't run more than 3 5ks since high school so my PR is probably during a college race.

im going into high school this next year and going to run as a freshman. im going to green mountain running camp, anyone know about it or is anyone going?
