Cross Country Skiers of NS?

Any other NSers cross country ski at all? Don't get me wrong, I love downhill as much as the next guy, but sometimes it's nice to slap on the old skinny sticks and hit a calm trail with some fresh powder. Any other members enjoy this simple pleasure?

Also, if any of you do, I'm in the market for a new pair of skis. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

I absolutely love it. Nothing like going out and getting my glide on. I don't own any pairs of XC skis currently but was thinking about it some time soon. Shit's super relaxing on down-days when you can't go skiing at the hill or you just really need a change up.

haha no fuck that. Got a good laugh though.

And yes, I am serious. Don't really know why it would be a joke.

I just went cross country skiing today for the first time in 5 years. Hard to get used to but I had a good time. Tis kinda fun

XC skiing with friends in highschool was the best. I remember having epic races between myself and a really good snowboard buddy of mine. Aha there was no way I was letting a snowboarder be better at skiing then me. Snowshoeing was pretty fun too but those things were waaaay clunky compared to XC skis.

Yeah it's surprisingly fun/relaxing.

I don't like snowshoeing. If I'm gonna walk up the mountain you can be damn sure I'll be skiing back down it, not walking again.

Cross country skiing is one of the most challenging sports out there. It works out your whole body and gets you ripped as hell. One of the faces of cross country today is Petter Northug of Norway. Just look at some of his finishes. one crazy ass dude

now imagine doing that one^ after 30k of racing

i skied xc from the first year of my life till i was 13. attended a few provincial camps and then i quit to play soccer. its a great sport but its boring as fuck imo. biathlon on the other hand adds some more fun with the shooting aspect.but when you are into racing 99% of the skiing you do is training which is the worst, racing is super intense and fun but when its 1% of your time spent on skis meh...i would rather ride park anyday than kill myself skiing uphill.

No shit.

In a very related way Eurosport was just talking about how one of the Norwegian girl cross country skiers is a model, I google her and find this:

Then i found out she is about three times as ripped as I am:

yeah i nordic ski as well, but for my highschool team. we were actually just up in canada at mont saint anne at the nordic center training. Although i love freeskiing, and it is easily my favorite out of the two, nordic skiing is still fun and a great workout. Races get super intense, and im not sure I enjoy that part the most, but the overall vibe is pretty sweet, and so many nice people are involved with the sport

Yeah I don't like doing track stuff. I've skied a groomed track i think twice in my life. I'm all about hitting a trail in the woods, getting a nice set of fresh tracks.

I've never even considered racing, but I don't think that would be my cup of tea. I just busted out a pair of my dad's old xc skis and they're in primo shape. Stoked to ride em.

It's good practice for younglings back East to get them ready to earn their epic conditions out west. I freed my heel for over three hours today, then ripped off the skins and locked em down for a pow decent. Did the same thing yesterday. I'm hooked.

There's just something about taking a powdery hill with a free heel. Especially an open-ish chute with a little bit of tree action. I'm gonna try my hardest to hit it tomorrow

i love it, but i always feel if i do it I'm gonna miss something cool at the mountain so i dont do it often

Went cross country skiing for the first time in over 10 years this morning. It was my first time skate skiing instead of nordic skiing, and it was pretty damn fun. Now that I have my own gear, I will be getting on the local trails whenever the mountains haven't received any new snow.

Yeah that's another definite upside is if theres no fresh snow on the mountain you can almost always count on some fresh stuff in the woods
