Im about to head cross country to bring my car out to school in colorado from new jersey. Haven't ever made the trip so i was wondering if anyone had any advice or just general road trip advice.

Don't wait til your gas tank is on E to fill up. Fill up when the price is low or you quarter tank. Some times that next gas station might be out of gas.

Snacks, water/drinks, take breaks, plan out your stops..make a big ass playlist that has all the jams on it, podcasts/audiobooks if youre into that kind of stuff.

I ate 4 pounds of licorice on a road trip once to stay awake. don't do that.

Ya know, most people drink caffeinated beverages to stay awake... not eat liquorice lol

I did both. Got to Bridger Bowl at 8:30am and went into the mini lodge to get some real food. The guy said "all I got is nachos bud" I said "fuck it I'll take it"

another poor decision

watch out for animals. rest stops are cheaper than hotels. if you drive straight you can be there without stopping (minus gas)

I always did the fill up on half a tank thing. Don't want to get fucked by running out of gas (especially in the western states) and its usually at the right time where I want to get out and stretch.

Why would anyone want to drive straight from NJ to CO, if that's even possible by yourself? Sounds like a good way to wrap you car around a light pole or end up in a ditch.

not saying dont do it if you cant handle it. i know people that go from oregon to ohio straight every couple months. i drove from denver to mass in one stop. not terrible

Audiobooks. You WILL get tired of listening to music at some point. Music also tends to put me to sleep. Listening to a book keeps you engaged, entertained, and awake. Crime novels or thrillers are the way to go.

Be careful how low you let your tank get, especially in middle-of-nowhere Wyoming. My buddies and I nearly ran out of gas out there around 3AM. We found a station, but it wasn't open. Had to just sit there till they finally did. Not too fun.

Bring toilet paper. There will likely be a time when you need to shit and there are no bathrooms around (like in the above running out of gas situation). Wiping with paper is way better than leaves or some shit.

Are you doing it alone? If so, be sure not to push yourself too far without sleep. Driving all day is actually really really draining because you have to be focused and on your game 100% of the time.

When I drove out west with 3 buddies, we each drove for a tank of gas at a time and rotated through drivers. That ended up being about 6-7 hours of driving each at a time. After you drive, you are the co-pilot for the driver. The 2 people in the back sleep. If you are driving through the night it is extremely important that those 2 actually sleep. Otherwise you won't make it through the night.

Sounds cliche, but take a lot of pictures. You will regret it you don't.
