Crochet starting from the top

for a hat? chain 3 stitches and then make a double croceht back to the very first stitch to make a little circle. then crochet around the circle, putting two stitches in each whole to make it expand. after youve got around 60 stitches from doubling up, just put one stitch in each hole to make the hat go down

I always start at the bottom, but I think its better to start from the top because when you start from the bottom you have to skip holes to make it tighter and them you get small holes. But if your good the holes wont show.

i used to start from the bottom.. but then the top sometimes has little bubbly points around it, where you had to skip holes. if you start from the top, you can tell such a difference. its amazing.
