Critique the F&%$ out of me

Just did my first Urban shoot. I need everyone to critique the photos. We had a 1 light setup with a generator. Cars pulling skiers into the rail, lots going on. It was extremely cold for early December in Ontario so only a few photos turned out decent.

+1 more light on its way for the next shoot :)

Skiers are all out of focus, focus is on the snow/rail, need more light so you aren't shooting at a high ISO. High ISO makes it super noisy and the quality of the image goes down.

Try a few different angles, less low angles, grab a few more lights to help light the rail so that way you do have a high ISO and don't have to open up your aperture so your focusing point isn't so shallow.

Its a good first try, just try to move around a bit more and get some more interesting angles as well as messing around with a slower shutter speed to get some motion blur.
 
like he said experiment with angles and consider looking for a cheap strobe, you can find them dirt cheap on ebay and it helps a lot with lighting. in general just need a lot more light though
 
All of them are either OOF, or soft from slow shuteer, high ISO or whatever.

Urban is tricky but oh so rewarding, easily my favorite part of skiing to shoot. You're probably not going to get anything worthwhile shooting at night without strobes. You could get a barebones speedlight setup for probably around $200-300.

I'd recommend a 3 light setup. I started out with Vivitar 285hv's and cheap yongnuo triggers. Lights are a tough beast, but when you finally understand them and can make them work for you, it's awesome.
 
To shoot urban, you basically have to have strobes. Start with two. Buy remotes that work well, don't cheap out because cheap remotes are too big a headache.
 
Overall, this is pretty good. As said above, the skiers are out of focus, because the rail is in focus. Also, you have the light so it is facing the side of the skier in some photos, and that can distract the viewer, because the eye is attracted to light. Other than that, these photos are really cool.
