Critique My Edit: The Shitshow

Hey guys, just put out a new edit and I am looking for some critiques. This is my first year using a DSLR and I have been learning a lot through experience and help from friends/other filmers. I have been battling with lingering injuries this year so I have been spending more time behind the lense than years previous. Anyways, a few things I have noticed about the edit is that some of the followcams are a little shaky and that some of my shots turned out pretty grainy. Just lookin for some more input, let me know what you think!

thanks dudes!

what are you talking about? His exposure and WB was pretty good for the most part.

nie edit dude. had a real fun feel to it. id think about investing in a glidecam or nice tripod. your shots werent horrible, but some were very shaky.

Yeah I was also wondering about the wb, seemed fine to me, and only noticed 1 clip where exposure was a bit high. Yeah, what were you using for the followcam? just handheld? what focal length?

I thought it was a good edit, only bit I didn't like was the blood, don't dislike blood but I don't enjoy seeing it.

thanks man, yeah i was just using a handle/camera caddie. I have been thinking about investing in a glidecam, I just have to save up some more money to do so. And as for the ISO i was shooting 100 for the majority of the edit, and always checked white balance. The focal length was 18-35mm, just a stock lense that came with the camera. The biggest question I have is why grainy shots keep showing up even on bright sunny days when I am shooting in a very low ISO and a high shutter speed? It could just be when I am viewing my project in my editing software too, im not sure.

what shots in particular are you talking about?

sometimes shots look grainy online. Especially on vimeo with the huge screen it has. I couldnt find any shots that were abnormally grainy in the embedded version. actually, your night shots looked pretty good for the given light.

He said he was having trouble with grain in his shots so i was recommending that he lower his iso. and his WB was fine, one of the first few shots just looked cold to me, and a good first few shots are important, that's all. Don't kill my family please, king Jordan Gasper, supreme source of all cinematography knowledge

dude stop being so naive. just because i disagreed with you doesn't mean im being cocky and know everything about cinematography. maybe if you didn't act like such a smart ass to everyone, i wouldn't call you out.

his shots being grainy weren't due to his ISO, it was either exported wrong, or when it was compressed online it loses some quality (like usual).

Yeah cause I shot alongside him and knew his iso was usually on 100. but im just fuckin with ya man, don't take it personally

Yeah I think they just looked grainy when I was importing them to my computer and then into my editing software. I think exporting them actually helped with the grain a little somehow haha. I'm guessing they just looked grainy because they were rendering and final cut pro isnt the best editing program nowadays haha... When I reviewed the clips on my camera they looked fine, it was when they were imported into FCP that they started to look questionable. im stoked on the feed back tho, keep it comin fellas

Looked good zach huge improvements. good song choice. Shots were a little shaky but not bad. The only thing i could say to work on is focusing corectly and exporting and uploading. Now must the shots where great on focus but the re were a couple off... but not bad. But what i did notice is when i full screened the video i did fall apart. the detail and sharpness was lost. i think if you worked on figuring out the best settings to export in relation to upload you might get a little bit better web result. oved the vibe good work.

hell yeah thanks man. Yeah i would like to get to the point where you can go full screen and it doesnt look like complete shit haha. and yeah i am definatly going to try to figure out a better way to export because i noticed this one was even a little worse than some of my other videos. hope to film with ya soon brotha
