Criticize my photo

Hey people I am new to ''media and arts'' and I just start seriously to try to make photos !

I post this in the flickr thread but no one seems to answer and I would really love to have help for taking better photo!

I don't really know if it was a great idea to create a flickr cause i

don't think people gonna find my pictures interesting. But I mainly did

that for having some advices !

so yeah here's my flickr

srry for bad english it 's my second language !

flickr is a great place to upload pictures too. unlike facebook, it does a pretty good job of making the photos a nice quality

are you near the 1000 islands, canada? that house on the island looks familiar

Here are my constructive criticisms:

Photo 1 "fun climb", the sign is not in focus, and I would have looked for a better angle to make this photo more interesting.

Photo 2 "oldschool boat", nothing is in focus, and the photo is pretty ugly.

Photo 3 "lonely house", is better because the subject is clear and the background is blue, nice looking and non-distracting. A different framing (perhaps further away) could have made this a better photo.

Photo 4 "sailboat", is weird because your subject (the sailboat) is out of focus and hidden behind the trees. The trees are not particularly stunning and part of them is still out of focus.

Photo 5 "corvette", nice colors but strange focus. It is focused on the "te" of "corvette".

Photo 6 "grandmother", is a nice portrait. The cars in the background are a bit distracting, you could try to find a more neutral background. Also, experiment with shooting portraits in landscape or with your subject on the right.

Photo 7 "mom", is nice. I would perhaps crop out a bit of the skin on the left. This photo is nice because the skin tones pop out from the green/blue background.

Photo 8 "goggle reflection". I like the colors but again the focus is weird. The problem is that the skis attract attention but are blurry. I would either crop the skis out or have them in focus. I would perhaps have shot this with a smaller aperture so more of the goggle is in focus.

I think my main criticism was your focusing technique. Try to think how a viewer will see the photo for the first time... where will the eye go first? If that part of the photo is out of focus or hidden, 99% of the time it's not going to be a good photo.

Hope that helps man! Have fun shooting!

You're off to a good start. I can see you have a natural eye for composition, which is great. Read up on some compositional techniques, framing, rule of thirds, leading lines, etc. A good composition is a must for a good photo. After you've developed your sense of composition you can start learning about color and value, the role they play in your photos and how you can use them to convey what you want to in a photo.
