Crested Butte

So I would first like to say that yes this is in a way a rant for a season that was not all it was cracked up to be. Because of the management and ski patrol at crested butte. Never until this season have I had my pass be threatened and I had it happen 4 times this season at the butte for stupid things. Or maybe it was just the people in this valley having their heads in the ground and not realizing there is skiing outside of here. . This year I moved to Gunnison so I could ski all the time and go to college. The ski resort is crested butte. A mountain that prides it self in it’s “extreme” terrain. Well this year they also got a sponsorship through DC that was supposed to make their park one of the top 10 in the country. Good laugh. Their park is about the same size as the medium parks everywhere else in the area. And the “superpipe” is the biggest joke I have ever seen. Which brings me to my frustration. Yesterday at the butte 3 of my good friends got their passes pulled and banned for life because they took a box from the side of the jib park that was taken out and set it up in front of a kick that was already there. Now don’t get me wrong. I don’t think it was the best decision, but the park crew at cb is not very good and generally are lazy and not on top of things. Such was the case with this box. I give them credit, they try, but they still are not to good at what they do. Most features are usually sketchy for one reason or another. When we got there at noon yesterday they had 2 jumps for rails sitting there with nothing to hit because they decided to pull out the boxes for some reason. My friends just pulled a box in front of one of those old kicks and started sessioning it. They were skiers and boarders. So I ask you all. What’s wrong with that? To me, that’s just a fun session. I was on my down to hit it when they got them pulled. Do you think that there is justification for banning them for life? I don’t think it does, If anything they should have just been told to put it away. I believe at least. I also don’t think it does much for the image of the mountain either. Which out side of the butte does not have the friendliest of images. The guy who pulled their passes, is the mountain manager h-bomb. So basically the biggest guy at the resort. I don’t know about you guys but I feel that when someone like that is getting on kids for trying to have some fun, idk. It makes me not want to be here anymore. It makes me think why do other people have to ruin other peoples fun just because it is not what you do. I know the mountain manager is not the most liked person and seems like a park hater. Does anyone else think it just sounds to convenient?

Chris i agree with you on this one. H-Bomb is the biggest fuck face at any mountain in the world.

i'll add more to that in a minute. But the deal with there park is that this season they were getting trained, and the Park is supposed to be that good next season. This is from 3-4 people i've talked to at the mountain. So hold your horses on the park, it will get there hopefully.

As much as i love the mtn of Crested Butte, you are very right. I went to Crested Butte to film a small time event. And H-Bomb told me i could film the event, then he told me i wasnt aloud to because of a comment someone else made. The guy is a complete ass hole, he was talking down to me the entire time I was there, making personal cracks and attacks at me. If Okemo or Mt. Crested Butte was smart they'd fire the fuck face. There were 4 other kids with cameras around the mtn. None of them asked for permission like i did to film the event. Which was some small bull shit pipe comp, but regardless it was with some friends of mine, Alex and Drew. And he pulled some National Forrest Permit bullshit on me.

The thing he didnt realize is that it would benefit him. So after filling out 20 release forms, and basically doing H-Bomb 5 services at no charge, it looked like we are cool and i would get to film the event and my friends, after basically forfeiting all my footage. Than he personally attacks me and makes fun of my appearance, and how i'm a joke. And tells me i cant film, and turns back on a mutual comprimise we reached.

FUCK H-Bomb! I hope you live a life plagued full of long lift lines, and core shots you ass hole!

And Crested Butte fire that Ass Hole. And know that how H-Bomb treats people in the roots of the ski industry will come back to haunt you in the future.

a men to that. i couldnt believe how rude he was to anyone involved. i have an extremely sour taste in my mouth now towards cb. i know once the season is over im going to write a very detailed letter to the owners and hopefully they get it.

and with the park crew thing, the thing that really erked me was that they were mad about them sessioning this box. i mean, doesen't that defeat the whole purpose of what were all out there to do. which is just have fun! thats why im there.

Yeah dude, the guy just rips at you for absolute reason. He has to ruin your day. But its not worth it. I know 20 some odd people who have sent emails and contacted the Managers at Okemo, its worthless. This guy doesnt deserve the light of day. I've never met anyone thats a bigger ass hole. I'm still frustrated and hate that whenever i go to CB, or am in the area all i can think about how that fuck ruined my whole day, and now its turning out to be the whole rest of the season. I hope everyone butt rapes him with 6 ft long icesicles!

give it a little more time they have another 1 and 45 minutes of skiing left!

it just sucks such a good mountain, that has so much potential has to be plagued with H-bomb and a currently lackluster/lazy park crew.

Sounds like the future is bright as far as the park goes though!

H-Bombs an ass!

I've been doing the tele extremes there for 3 years, and my older sister for 3 years before me. never have i seen such an anal man with such low sense of humor before.

one year, because a friend of mine had no helmet, he duct taped a salad bowl to his head. he got dq and fined.

in addition, i would not trust the ski patrol to even fix a broken finger. with all of the extreme terrain that crested butte has, you would think that they would have a more better equiped ski patrol. last year at the extremes, a great skier hit a tree during his run. it dislocated his knee, severing an artory. it took ski patrol an hour to get him off the slopes (this includes an unneccessary 20 min. just sitting in the sled in the finishing coral). after that it took him another two hours to get to gunnison before they flew him to denver. the whole time he's saying he can't feel is leg and they're more concerned about his dislocated shoulder. needless to say, he ended up losing his leg two days later.

thus. love the actual terrain at crested butte (minus the park) but could do without h-bomb, the ski patrol, and the arrogance of the town.

thanks for the chance to rant.

i was there at new years and could only ski park and noticed that some off the jumps were sketchy

After this thread gets to a decent size, someone should email the link to H-Bomb and Management at Crested Butte/Okemo Family, or whoever would have authority of him!

A lot of this sour taste in your mouth about CB could have a lil to do with the Giant lack snow in this valley this season....

No, This guy everyone dubs H-Bomb is the biggest ass hole to every work in the ski industry. He wouldnt let me film, and personally attacked me. I was fine with not filming, but personal attacks against people are unecessary when an 18 year old filmer(myself) is doing Him(ass hole) a free service/benefit, he should be thanking me for the option. It didnt cost the mtn a ticket or anything! He pulls passes for the dumbest reasons, and makes any business dealings w/ Mt. Crested Butte the hardest thing ever.

Pulled their passes and Banned them for life? You have to be kidding. That is the most unnecesary and lamest thing I have ever heard. They could have just had your friends do some sort of "punishment" that would benefit the mtn.

For example: make them rake the jumps and jibs for a few hours. Honestly I bet you guys wouldn't have even minded given the one time I was at CB this year their park definitely could have used some TLC from some riders that are actually skiing it. If they did this, the management the mtn and the skiiers would have benefited.

That said, I don't think any punishment was warranted whatsoever. A simple warning would have sufficed. Now all that has been accomplished is 3 loyal customers hvae been denied access to the mtn. Makes me sick!

h bomb is the head of mountain safety and head of mountain operations. basically he is the head honcho in charge. or at least thats what i have been told.

all i can suggest is that you write letters about H and they be directed towards emueller@cmbr.com. His name is Ethan and he is the director of opperations at the mountain. IT IS IN FACT a widespread opinion that H is ruining our mountain and yes, something does need to be done. I hate to see my home area brought down by one man. HE doesn't need to be the person dealing with any human contact - that's definetly not his forte.

I have been skiing crested butte my whole life and have a very good idea of how much of a retard h-bomb is. but i have to give it to him that he tries to help the butte, he is just to egotistical and stupid to listen to people who actually know what they are talking about.

he's like or is napoleon?

maybe he needs to get laid.

this kinda reminds me of out cold. i'm just weird like that.

oh well, i guess i will just have to live with a bitch for a couple of years since i'm going to western state next year.

good luck, guys.

definitely write to the owners and other management.

ooh you may want to consider! its 500 dollars to ski, then you have a 70 percent chance of getting it pulled :(

Well, here's the devil's advocate arguement...

As far as your friends knew, that box could have been falling apart or been dangerous for X reasons. Which brings me to the fact that mountains have insurance, they pay a fuckload for it, and it has certain rules - such as employees need to be the ones who set shit up. Basically, the mountain probably felt that by taking the box and putting it in themselves, they put others on the mountain at risk, ever if they werent hitting the box.

i dont know if the situation permitted this, but htey should've at least run it by park crew before doing it...

don't flame me, i'm just explaining a possible arguement of the mountain's.

your right,

but the guy's over the board, and is does alot of unecessary things, he goes beyond just being a prick, and starts to attack people, and is a disgrace to man kind. Alot of really mellow people have a problem with him, that say something.

you mean reconsider. maybe is afraid of other guys. he gets in that "napoleon bonaparte" mode and just goes crazy, but yet he loves the "marie antoinettes". hmmmmm maybe? maybe not?

that was a weird analogy, but it could make sense.

H is truly the most hated man in the valley and like Sac said above, this all needs to be forwarded to Ethan Mueller. H is the "mountain ambassador" and portrays the most unprofessional, egotistical attitude in the industry. The girl above who spoke of the guy in the Tele-xtremes who lost a leg - H-bomb took the 20 minutes to get there because he was pulling passes for throwing snowballs, if i lost a leg over that i would sue the mountain and demand that H was fired, and yes banned for life. H has also pulled passes over a bar fight that had nothing to do with the mountain, simply a way to use his power ( that's all you have when you are a 4' 11" little bitch) This has gone on far too long and the Muellers need to step in and do something about it.

As to the thread creators friends, i underdstand why they got in trouble, those frontside boxes were shitty and had screws sticking out, and were probably put there for that reason. A lifetime ban or 3 year ban? either way that is pushing it, they simply could have gotten the rest of their season revoked.

As far as Crested Butte Mountain, yes our parks have had their problems, but do you know who makes the calls? H - that is why our jumps are never big enough, our landings are short, and our rails and superpipe are way sketchy. Yes we got a DC sponsor, but this year they were not that involved, they were simply a name and gave us some nice boxes. Next year it is rumored that they will take over park operations and possibly move the park to frontside Westwall lift, which would be really sweet. My only concern is that as soon as the DC guys have to deal with H-baumm, things will blow up. H will not be able to handle losing authority and he will make their lives hell, thus causing DC to pull their sponsorship. DC is doing great things for our mountain, but one tiny little man is jeapordizing our future. So for business sakes FIRE H BAUMM !!!!!!!!!!!
