Creative rail grinds

ok so this is basically my third year skiing and I'm really getting into park. I'm better at jumps than rails mostly cuz I don't know what do to on a rail and what stuff is called. What the hell is a pretzel or k-fed, or those ones where one ski is on and the others in a weird position. So what are EVERY different rail grind you can do and how do you do them?

Thanks alot

1. pretzel- spin on way then switch to the other way try it on a wide box rail

2. k-fed- switch up to 270 off

3- 50-50 ride on a rail then go off

4-rail slide ride sideways

5-tail and nose slide riding with your tail or nose on a rail

6- tail or nose tap- tapping rail with your nose or tail

7- hippie killer- using your ski nose to make you spin look it up on line traveling circus

8- screaming seamin- crossing your skis with your legs

9- ski slide- grinding a rail with one ski on rail and one ski off rail in a 50-50

10- broken- moving your front back or both skis so the sides are grinding the rail not your base

11- body slide- grinding with your body

theres alot more that all i can think of though

also ray charles- blind switch up, blind 2 out

superfed- front swap blind 4 out

butter on- doing a butter (spinning on your tips) on the snow before hitting the rail

lip on- getting on the rail tail first, tails of skis going over the rail

there's more but yeah

switch ups are changing directions on a box or rail

Could be done with a switch-up or 360 switch too...like frontside switch-up pretzel to frontside 270.

Various common combos:

- switch-up to 270 out, also called "all 8" (front swap-blind2, front swap-front2, blind swap-front2, blind swap-blind2, done both right and left foot forward)

- double switch-up (front swap-blind swap, blind swap-front swap), also add spins out

- 270 on (also add swaps, spins-out or above combos after spin on)

- 360-swap (again, added swaps/spins/combos)

- surface tricks (same stuff as above, but don't jump, just slide it over)

- taps (tap your tip or tail on the top or side of the rail/box getting on/off or even in the middle of a swap)

- 50-50s (straight slide, either 2 feet on or just 1)

- Andy Parry stuff...can't really explain them, just watch Traveling Circus or Andy's Wizard Grinds on youtube

There are TONS of others, the key is to try mixing different tricks/combos and linking them together in creative ways or doing them at different times on the rail (for example doing a swap on the kink of a down-flat rail, or swapping early on the rail then holding position for the rest of the rail then spinning out). I'd recommend getting used the basics (sliding, swaps, 270s on, frontside/blindside 270/450/630 off, ect.) and being able to do them both ways REALLY helps (right foot forward and left foot forward). Once you have the basics, start linking them together, then it's just a matter of cleaning them up.

*note, I interchange switch-up and swap depending on my mood/what I'm used to saying...they're both the same*

sorry for the double post...

Blindside and Frontside (shortened to front and blind often) and ways of spinning while on or off rails. It's based off where the downhill side is while you're spinning, for example a blind switch-up would be a switch-up where your back faces downhill during the beginning of the spin (this all counts for the first 90 degrees of the spin when you spin more). So if you slide right foot forward, a blind trick would be a left-side spin and a front trick would be a right side spin.

Also, to add to my above post, learn how to scissor or grip the rail with front foot inside edge, it'll help initiate spins while on the rail and spins off.

I'd just go watch a lot of edits with a lot of rail tricks and you'll start to notice what the do to be able to do the trick.

it annoys me when people say front swap and bs swap , for me a front swap is just a sw up and a bs swap is a blind switchup

Also fastslide- sliding like railslide but trailing foot not grinding i.e. Lift trailing foot grind of leading foot. Backslide- like fastslide but leading foot lifted and grinding on trailing foot
