hey
so i was wondering how i should make a small dolly for primarily skiing on the mountain. I was thinking something no longer then about 3 or 4 feet. I have a small consumer cam but am upgrading to hmc40 in a few months. I got a tripod now i just need thoughts on how to construct this. any thoughts would be great

youtube homemade camera dollys. I found some good plans last fall just randomly searching. Most use just 1 inch pvc tubing and then angle mounted roller blade wheels and the whole thing breaks down into pieces. hope it helps

I made one a few days ago, I made it the type where it a board and angle aluminum with skate wheels mounted onto the metal. It's 2x3 feet and super sturdy, doesn't bend or flex at all, and runs on 1 1/4 inch PVC (or 1 1/2, I forgot which). I can post pics if you want.

Your probably going to want something a bit longer than 3-4 feet. By the time you make your rolling dolly rock thats going to be 2-3 ft span itself, leaving only 1ft or so for your actual dolly move. As these boys said, there are 101 different directions online for different collapsable versions. I'd suggest doing a "T" style dolly setup like below....

yeah this method is great. thers also called the indislider (or something like that). google it and youll find its website. it looks sweet. its like a dolly but attaches to your tripod head

Most likely skateboard wheels. I used skate wheels because they are flat and provide a larger sliding surface. I tried to use inline wheels, but they didn't work.
