Creating a box

we made one for free

2x4's = construction sites

topsheet = hottub store...theres one in woodinville with slabs of stuff lying outside in the junk pile. dont go during the day though, they yell at you

no its UHMW high polymer plastic sheets (maybe its the same thing as lexan, im not sure, but its also called "puck board" because its what is used for the sheeting around the inside of hockey rinks

UHMW = ultra high molecular weight. I thought about using it on the stumpysticks, but chose not to because of cost and repairability (or lack thereof).

UHMW is just that, a substance with large molecules. Its a polymer, so the molecules are very very long. The longer they are, the harder it is to scratch/damage. AND the less friction it has (because friction is caused by the molecules grabbing the surface (snow), so if they're longer, there's less hooky's to grab... make sense?)

BUT, unlike p-tex, UHMW cannot be repaired. So thats a MAJOR bummer.

p-tex all the way baby.

but yes, on boxes it would work great. I always thought they used lexan on boxes, but now that I think about it, it's probably UHMW. Nalgene bottles are made out of lexan.

couldnt you repair UHMW the same way you repair ptex? just melt it into the gouges and then scrape? or actually, when i think about it, would it harden too quickly?

Short answer is no. I don't know the long answer, but I do know for a fact that you cannot patch UHMW by melting it into itself like P-tex. I'm sure the best you could do is patch it with epoxy, but that is gonna be SHIT on a base.

only reasoning behind that is to say that they did.

same with the p-tex topsheets on the new public enemies. it serves no purpose at all.

We Ptexed the topsheet of Grant's PE's the other day. It was fun!

Also there's a reason the 4frnt's are lighter and their edges don't fall out as easily. So I wouldn't say that it serves no purpose

how exactly does the UHMW on the sidewall make them lighter and hold the edge better? It doesn't. The sidewall is not in contact with the edge.

i don't know why i was talking about ptex sidewalls. i think the only skis that i've heard of that having ptex side walls was armada and didn't they change that to abs like everybody else? i was thinking about abs not ptex earlier
