Crazy North Koreans

does food for oil sound familiar?

goes back to an argument of what money is put to better use. 1 billion dollars of charitable donations? or a 1billion dollar investment that has the potential to create wealth for ALL parties involved. (building a factory, you get my drift)

you are absolutely ignorant and out of place, keep your fucking mouth shut if you don't know what you're talking about. Not surprised you are from Canada at all.

does a degree in politics surprise you?
but yep i'm ignorant because i disagree with your narrowminded view of the world. Sorry.

this is why our president has to apologize to the rest of the world. because of morons like you

No man, this kid is completely wrong. Was invading Iraq and Iran in our best interests? Absolutely fucking not. We haven't accomplished anything worth while throughout this situation, and it's entirely to blame for a retarded President that was easily manipulated. But to preach that it's good for North Korea to develop weapons of mass destruction is absurd. Do you realize the tensions they have with South Korea? They have stated that even participating with the U.S. is deemed an act of war...These psycho fucks would invade or launch a nuclear bomb into South Korea with zero hesitation or regard for life. The Canadian kid that think's it's ok for such an irresponsible country to have Nukes clearly depicts how fucking stupid most Canadians are in regard to these matters. Just because your country is apathetic, does not mean you are doing the right thing for the international community. Only for yourselves.

i will repeat myself again. morons like you are the reason that our president has to apologize to the rest of the world

but do you think that means north korea should have said nukes? look at this for example. every time peace talks start they have to measure the flag poles and if the south korean one is slightly bigger or if the north korean one is slightly taller nothing gets done cause thats how much these two countries hate each other. now, if they really only wanted nuclear technology for lets say power use id be all for it cause it is a pretty clean form of energy (-the waste afterwards of course).... but i dont trust the nutbag running their country.

They seriously gave you a degree in politics? And no you're not ignorant for disagreeing, you're an idiot because your argument is ridiculous.

my point was not directed so much at his dislike towards north korea and the nukes. more his idiocy about dumb canadians

is kim jong ill nuts? for sure. but to put things in perspective, think about the dude who was running OUR country for the last 8 years. and can you imagine our reaction if soemone had told US what to do with our nukes? im just really sick of americas superior, exceptionalist attitude

I think what they are saying is that it is in North Korea's interest for them to have nukes because no one would pay any attention to them or give them aid otherwise... it's obviously not in everyone else's interest for a rouge regime to have nukes but is a rational move by North Korea.

you don't even make any sense. These are totally irrelevant situations. You clearly know very little about North Korea...the U.S. isn't being imperialistic or dictating what the North Koreans should be doing...the entire fucking world is, even North Korea's former/relative alies like Russia and China, and there's a reason for that.

If you know how fucked up North Korea was you would realize the immense threat to national security that their scare tactics impose.

If idiots like you dictated this national crisis: Oh, South Korea or Japan refuse to import food and aid to NK this month? Ok, that's an act of war because they are not siding with us. Let's just use this nuclear weapon and show them who's boss.

Does Iran deserve to create a national defense system? Absolutely. Does North Korea? Abosolutely fucking not. It is run by a single dictator that has broken every human rights violation ever created and contantly secludes with propogandistic lies. At least stay on topic if you're going to make clueless remarks and responses.

first of all im Canadian to, and those nukes are a threat to the USA, and the international community as a whole. You act like the US is the only one who condemns the attacks when the UN as a whole has condemned them. Sure the US will be the country published as the main opposition, but that is what happens when they are the world power. You are correct that they do not have missle delivery system capable of reaching the US, however, they do have the capabilities to attack major US allies such as Japan and South Korea and with further research probably will eventually have the capabilitiesto produce ICBM's. I saw in the other post that you have a degree in political science... i find that hard to believe because if that was true you would understand the position of the hegmonic power that is the USA, everything they do is scrutinized. To maintain their power they have to tell other people what to do, and what pisses me off is that people like you fail to realize that lots of other countries tell other countries what to do... it isn't some americanized phenom buddy. I agree America one day probably will not be the super power, who will it be? Maybe China? Possibly Russia? Maybe the EU (hopefully)? You think if China is the most powerful nation in the world that their power won't be felt everywhere, that is naive, the US acts in a context of self-preservation and realistically speaking other countries do to, if they back down surely someone else will step up.

I'm not sure that anyone in this entire thread knows too much about north korea. sure you may have watched a documentary or two on the country but it tells so little about what truly goes on there.

The country is in fact stuck in a time lock and have not technologically passed the late 50's. When people do gain access into the country they are guided by specific people, they stay in specific hotel rooms, and are only allowed to go to certain places. These places are all done up in the best of fashion so that to the outsider, the country seems well off when in fact, they are dieing off. Kim Jong-Il is well aware of this and hides the fact from the outside world by only allowing certain pictures, video clips, and soundbite to be released from the country.

Think of all the documentaries you people ahve watched and the only places each video shows are the same spots over and over. The absurdly big Kim-Il Sung statue, the arch of reunification, the pyongyang hotel, that batleship they captured from the 'evil' americans, the gymnastics stadium, and the palace of treasures. All these spots are somewhat censored from the public as they are suposed to depict the well-being of the country.

Basically the whole place is a country of smokes and mirrors. They can tell the public one thing, and do another. Quite frankly I think it is fascinating that the entire country is still, in this day and age, have no contact with the outside world. I think the best documentary that anyone curious about North Korea can watch is that one posted on hte first page by the editors of Vice. They sneak in as journalists, and are anything but. The whole time you are actually getting creeped out by the whole seclusion of the place its so fucking awesome. The best scene is when they are at Mass Games, a truly unbelievable spectacle, and they are sitting watching one million people dance, in a stadium that can fit thousands, and they are the only two, other than their guides, watching the thing. its truly the most bizarre thing ever.

I personally am not worried about north korea solely based on the fact that Kim Jong-Il really is a psycho lunatic and most of the time doesnt know whats going on, and that they are so poor they can't even afford to feed their people or have basic infastructure that a coutnry needs. its just an absurd social experiment that should not have been allowed after the Korean war and is now getting a blind eye by the entire world because the leader is too stpuid to accept help.

^ its east to keep the country stuck in the 1950's and isoltaed from the rest of the world when there is no electricity in the country.

Think about if we had no electricity, what would we know of the rest of the world?

Im calling this now, if their latest calls arnt just threats that they wont do anything about, theirs about to be a war in korea.

but look on the bright side- we'd take care of global warming ;)
what's a nuclear holocaust compared to global warming?

WOW that documentary is absurd. nk is a fucked up place man i wish we could go and just help everyone gtfo as soon as possible

+k

And if N. Korea does attack Japan, well guess whose military is responsible for defending Japan and dealing with N. Korea? You guessed it, good ol' USofA. If you will recall, after Word War II, Japan sign the Mutual Security Assistance Pact with the United States in which the US guaranteed Japans security and allowed Japan to create a civilian military for mainly internal threats and natural disasters. The people in Japans "military" are still considered civilians and are bound by normal Japanese law. This does affect the US and the rest of the world is behind us on this one. Its funny how everyone hates the United States until they need them.... the role of the hegemony I guess.

he doesnt have to apologize to anyone.

what this kid is trying to say, is at some point you have to say 'wow, this is some messed up shit, millions of peoples lives are at stake if this psycho gets nuclear weapons' is it more moral to let them do what they want, and blow the fuck out of south korea, or should someone step in in hopes to stop them. now this is not saying the ends always justify the means, but obviously talking and sanctions will not be successful, and a decision has too be made which is the lesser of two evils. soon there will be a time when the world needs to face the growing problem of north korea, because shit will indeed get out of hand. kim jong is an absolute psycho.

fyi: they have declared that they are no longer honoring the armistice with south korea made in 1953 after the korean war.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090527/ap_on_re_as/as_koreas_nuclear

and working this out with words is out of the question:

"It is a laughable delusion for the United States to think that it can

get us to kneel with sanctions," it said in an editorial. "We've been

living under U.S. sanctions for decades, but have firmly safeguarded

our ideology and system while moving our achievements forward. The U.S.

sanctions policy toward North Korea is like striking a rock with a

rotten egg."

and china is north korea's ally. so um, yeah that complicates things quite a bit.

Hahahaha that made me LOL. What makes Canada so free compared to any other western nation. How about the Netherlands more free and liberal than Canada, or any other western nation. Overall they are all the same. Lots of bullshit still goes on behind closed doors and the media and everything else is just one big fucking brainwash and its fine cause you can't do shit about it and as long as you dont get directly affected why should u give a shit. Thats the sad truth to it all. Im not saying we dont have certain freedoms and we are certainly much better off than North Korea or China. Btw what exactly is freedom anyways?

China is accounted for about 75 percent of North Korea’s international trade, mostly being food and oil. China has the ability to shut down the trade, and would leave the psycho dictator starving. Then who knows what would happen...

How can you compare Kim Jong Il yo GWB? That is the most ignorant comparison I have ever heard on this site. Kim Jong Ill is brainwashing and torchering the people of North Korea. He is putting together a nuclear program that is bound to destroy 100,000+ lives. How the fuck can you compare him to GWB?

half true, wasnt america supposed to give NK a bunch of fuel when they dismanteled there nuke power rod things?? i watched some show on all this last night. apparently when you go there to visit, you have to leave your cell phone and any communication devices with some army dudes at the airport, so you cant contact anyone outside. and reporters have to wear some special arm band saying who they are so people know not to talk to them.. also your never allowed to take pictures or video behind statues, only infront..

hectic shit i must say.

how many people has the iraq war killed so far? brainwashing? G dub did a pretty damn good job of terrifying everyone into thinking they were gonna die from terrorists. Il is worse by a long shot, no arguments, but bush was not exactly a shining example of America.

but my point was more Americas absurd exceptionalist attitude in general, ever since WWI. We are a great country, but that attitude isnt healthy, and puts off a horrible image to the rest of the world. were hypocrites plain and simple

i felt like throwing my two cents in and saying i'll be in south korea for 6 months starting in august.

i don't know if any of you know anything about marching, but have you seen northern koreans march? WOW

You are becoming one of my favorite Americans. Viewpoint-wise anyways. None of the whole "USA is the best country in the world everyone else is inferior and wrong" bullshit that is at least subconsciously conveyed by so many of the posts around here...
As for this matter, I won't get in on the whole political justice or morals of the situation, because I personally don't think there is any way we are going to know all the background. The governments are only going to release info that they don't mind letting the rest of the world know. I don't know how the agreements between countries work, but couldn't some of them be secret and kept out of public eyes? There is so much that the public can't know, that forming a strong opinion on the matter seems a little irrelevant to me.
So pretty much, I will only state that North Korea is damn interesting, and thanks for posting the link to the documentary. That country is in strange shape, and I can't wait to hear more about these issues.
I should probably state that I am Canadian. Just because.

Marching sucks so much, I march quads in our marching band and they weigh 45 lbs... fuck that.

North Korea's marching looks incredibly tiresome, they remind me of the radio city rockettes, I always chuckle a little bit when I see them march, its so dysfunctional.

another point, regardless of how friendly china is with North Korea now, i cant see them being particularly stoked on that nutter having nukes..

we are one of the world super powers and part of our responsibility is to help people where we see fit, which is what we did in iraq under george bush. now you look back and bitch, but the American people and congress were behind him and we did our best to help iraqies and afghanis.

as for thinking we would die from terrorists, mad people did die from terrorists and who knows how many more wouldve. thats beyond my point...

my point is we have to do our best as a country to protect and aid those people who are unable to protect themselves with the knowledge and resources we have at hand in the way we think will be most beneficial to them when the time comes. we may look back like you are now and say we went about this wrong, but thats a chance worth taking when your dealing with a country of peoples life under oppressive dictators or wacko terrorists who endanger their own people, and many other countries lives.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

as for the rest of the post. we dont give two shits about helping other countries. if we did we would have gone to help in africa and god knows where else. we go where its in our countries interests, financial or foreign policy wise, to intervene.

you know how many people we displaced and killed as a result of a false pretense war in iraq far exceeds any terrorist group, right?

you have the wrong idea of how our country works. its not for the common good, but for our own personal welfare. afghanistan was legit for harboring a threat to our people. iraq on the other hand, had nothing to do with terrorists. it was about the countries threat to our own which turned out to be nothing- same with north korea. we have defenses for weapons they havent even come close to creating yet. a speck on the radar. to interfere with north korea over a few bomb tests and failed missile launches is fucking retarded. the way we are handling them right now is the way to do it. anything else will get countless people killed unnecessarily. it sucks, but thats life. get used to the idea.

Are you implying we should have invaded Rwanda (or Southern Sudan or Darfur or the DRC or whatever else)? And you honestly think other countries don't operate in their own self-interest? Self-serving foreign policy is not exclusive to the US or to capitalist powers or to the West...it's universal.

And to those of you saying things like "I'm from Canada, the most free country in existence" juxtaposed with things like "Americans need to stop being so arrogant"...do you guys not have irony up there?

hes a fucking psycopath... i guess this weekend he voidded the peace treaty we had about the 38th parallel between North and South korea... possibly first step to world war 3 as my history teacher said

if i had a nickel for every time i heard an academic say that about a current event...everyone wants to be the one that 'calls it'.

no one will understand why shit hits the fan if and when it does. it will be such an obscure sequence of events that we will only understand it after the fact.

There's a difference in being proud of one's freedom and being arrogant. No matter what country you are in, you're going to have something to be proud of and happy with. Well, as long as that country is home by choice.
The arrogance associated with many stereotypical Americans is a pompous attitude of superiority to all others. Lack of respect, acting like they're the shit and everyone else should know it, etc. How is this associated with a little pride in one's home? Completely different things. You guys are all super patriotic, more so I'm sure than most Canadians, and though at times it can look funny, is not arrogant. At least not the way I see it.

Yes i was. Did i say i cared if other countries did it? Im sooooo sick of this "well other countries do it too" bullshit. The United States is NOT run by 5 year olds. So stop giving Iraq the bullshit pretense of "we did it for the good of the people". if we did, we would have thought a hell of a lot harder before we invaded.

Exactly. I dont get mad at Americans who say "we live in the greatest country in the world". I get mad at the people who think that that is a license to interfere wherever and whenever they please.

^^^^thats what fast thinking tends to get the US....

That VBS documentary was a very good watch. It's really frightening how that country has evolved. They hate the rest of the world and they don't even know why really. They have been spoon fed spin their whole lives and know no other way.

The cities crumble and people starve so they can build a big monument to show off their might and power and strength. This display of carelessness of human existance and lives is what frightens me. The North Korean government will put ALL its citizens in harms way in an instant without thinking twice, to appear powerful and indestructable.
