I love root beer! Best I ever had was at a little ma and pa shop down in some small town north of Little Rock. They said it was homemade, I wish I could think of what they place was called. I'd deffinetly like to swing by there next spring and buy their entire supply.

wouldn't mind trying to make it, i've made ginger beer before with a ginger bug starter. ginger beer plus things like cinnamon, star anise, cloves, licorice, cloves, vanilla, and molasses would equal root beer.

would be pretty easy to do, just steep all the ingredients like a tea, cool it and add your starter, molasses, and sugar. put it into a sealed glass bottle at room temp, and burp it once a day so it doesn't blow up. would take about a week.

now that i think about it its pretty much a chinese 5 spice plus molasses and vanilla. i think some interesting variations could be had.

i hope your drinking it with goslings rum...

as far as store bought stuff goes, fentimans makes the best ginger beer ive come across. same goes for their tonic water. they make a few different sodas, no root beer though.
