Cracking salomon z12 ti bindings

I hear these bindings cant take the impacts from park skiing, because theres so much plastic. anyone have personal experiance with this? and im only 130 pounds, so do you think ill be ok?
 
The best quality Salomons are those with the driver toe, i.e. the STH14 Driver and the STH 16.

My recommendation would be the Rossignol FKS/Look Pivot (same binding). They're lighter than the Salomons, all-metal and more durable (the 15 DIN and up FKS/Pivots are all metal, the 14 and below ones have plastic toes).

They have better release characteristics (more consistent, among other things) so that you won't prerelease, and they'll probably end up saving your knees.
 
I'm guessing you're still growing, but I bought z-12s when I wasn't much heavier than you. They are not durable at all. I have broken the base plate twice and broken many, many other parts. Spend your money on something more durable like look p's or px's. The sth 12 and sth 14 aren't too great I hear, and the marker royal series hasn't been too good in my experience either.
 
yeah the thing is, the bindings have already been on my pow ski for a year, no problems. im just wondering if i should switch em over to my park skis, or if they would get crushed.
 
Park generally has more heavy impact-type skiing, I wouldn't chance it. Selling would be your best bet, get some Pivots/FKS, or at the very least some PX/Axials. Rossignol/Look/Dynastar seem to have the best bindings in every category, Marker makes some slightly non-shitty bindings, and Salomon's are okay, but for the price:performance ratio, you can't beat Rossi.
 
Dude my Z12 TI's have taken a beating and still are in good condish. Yes they have a lot of plastic but whoever said they are basically the same as the STH 12 was right. (i was gonna quote you but cant see it now that im posting). They will do you well, in my mind the extra money for a sth12 is a waste they are pretty much the same binding.
 
Get the STHs. So much better. If you want to actually upgrade you might as well just get FKS or Pivots.
 
I don't disagree with that in the slightest. The FKS is a better binding though, hands down, and it costs around the same as an STH16 (which is the newest incarnation of the 916, as you probably know).
 
I should've rephrased that. I meant "Why is the STH pattern better?", but you answered my question. The STH16 is a bomber binding, and I hear they're bringing back the all-metal version next year.
 
The STH mount has 5 screws in the heelpiece, as opposed to the Z series which has only 4, and from my experience, blow. STH are a solid step up tho and I have rarely seen problems with them.
 
alright here to clear it up:

DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT! buy salomon bindings unless they are sth 16s (yes they are different and way higher quality than 12s/14s) or pre z-series such as the s916, etc. they have more metal and are bomber as fuck. that is if you plan to ride your skis like anything but a pussy.

maker bindings are mehh. i have jesters, i like them and haven't had problems with them. great. but, my brother (special_k10101) who posted above broke his afd (the slidy piece on the toe) and had to get them warrantied. but since evo (our local shop) is filled with homies they swapped him straight across for a brand new pair of sh 16s. so, marker i'd say maybe.

fks/pivots are solid, realistically you're not going to have trouble with them.

px12s are pretty solid too, those things are heavy and bomber too, you're most likely not going to break them.

shoot, now i feel like i'm missing some key bindings... oh, you can't go wrong with head/tyrolia, those are solid too. good luck, hope that post/rant helped!
 
I have z 12's on my pow skis and have used them for 4 seasons now, no problems except I pop out of them way to easily because I'm 190

you pay for quality, dont get caught up in the "oh jesters are the best binding ever" NS faggorty that always happens. some rules of thumb for me at least are:

NO sliding AFD(tyrolias more turns on an axis then slide)

Plastic anything sucks and breaks easy, only worry about weight on AT bindings

Worm Screws ftw

4+ screws on the toe

Now yes, I did only sugest burly metal high din bindings, so your standards may not be up to par with mine. but there are so many kids that ride px12s and beat the shit out of them when they could be on something like fks(not the shitty new 14s) and they wouldnt have an issue.
 
oh and dont listen to the mount pattern debate with fks, if your tech/you know what to do and how to mount skis properly, you wont have an issue
 
Not everyone weighs enough to justify those bindings though. I weigh around 155. I don't have any problems with my sth 12's, px 12's (ti), or griffons. I'm not really a fan of the griffons though. I would go for mojo/peak 15's b/c I ride my din around 7 or 8.
 
Those bindings are terrible. I got some this year and definitley regret it. If you ski park at all get some of the better salomon bindings or go with rossi/look
 
Truth. It really comes down to whether the ski you mount on is decent. Anything which is wood,bamboo,carbon,metal ect is fine. Foam, not so much.
 
I skied Z12 Ti's for two years. Cliffs, sure. Pillows, sure. Moguls, sure. Flat landings, sure.

They're fine if you don't weigh 180lbs + gear IMO.
