Cracked heel? anybody done it?

so I cased it really hard today and i talked to patrol and i'm pretty sure i broke my heel. I can't tell. it was hurting a whole lot more than when i broke my wrist in three places and that's all i really have to compare the pain level to. has anyone else broken their heel? what's the recovery process? i don't have health insurance so i'm not going to get it xrayed. plus the patroller said that they don't do surgery or put it in a cast or anything so i'm not really all that worried. just kinda curious how long it will take to heal cause even bruised heels take forever to feel better.

umm ur def gonna want to see a doctor. Dont mess around with things relating to ur health, when in doubt, see a doctor. Your prob gonna need an x-ray from what ur describing

yo man i cracked my heel and you should see a doctor...

you will want to get a walking cast and it takes around 1 month to 1 and a half months to be done with cast.... then like 2 weeks for pt... and mine was real minor

def see a doctor... heel is very important and it sounds like urs is fucked up real bad

talk to JibNinja on NS. he broke his heel a couple years ago backflipping off a roof. theres pics in his profile

Broke my heel last winter. Put me out for two months. Stayed off the heel until the doctor said I could start putting weight on it again. I skied the last few weekends of the season, but extremely timidly. Poor fitting boots were to blame, picked up some better ones and I am back in it again this year. Still feels tingly/numb sensations every now and then, but it is back to normal, or as close to as possible. I had a 2 inch crack down the center of my right heel. Go to a doctor, get an X-ray and stay off it as much as you can.

I have one from my injury last year, worn once, at the doctor's office only. PM me if you are interested, I can take pictures. It's a Don Joy, and very quality. Will sell cheap if you are serious.

i wish it was that simple. i was looking into it at my work and i accidentally got my wife pregnant. oops. so apparently pregnant women are uninsurable so not only ami paying out of pocket for our kid, but insurance will have to wait

my friend cracked his heel in february and its put him well out for season. he was in a boot till just a little while ago and still limps a lot on it. i think he's got till sometime in may before he can do much again.

i think i'll have to wait awhile to tell if its broken. it hurt waay bad before and now that i'm not putting any pressure on it it still hurts constantly but only a little. it obviously hurts quite a bit if i put pressure on it. for those that have done it, how much did it swell? it's not too swollen. mainly on the front inside of it.

I did it to my foot in January, didn't know what I had done, when it started to feel better I jumped again, this time on an even bigger table (around 50 feet). I couldn't walk very well for a few days without limping. Then I scheduled an appointment with an Orthopedic Foot Surgeon, he took some X-rays and some CT scans, it turns out my heel is fractured. Definitely go to a specialist, like an orthopedic foot surgeon, because he found fractures that the X-ray at instacare didn't show.

pm me if you want more info, I am at my buddys house and i don't feel like typing my whole life story right now

my heel broke when i had very bad achilles tendonitis.  i went to two diferent foot specialists and neither of them did anything, all they said to do was stretch and ice your heel'/ankles.  and dont run or do anything stressful to your feet. i couldnt do much of anything for about 6 months, and youll have to stretch before you anything physical becuase your feet will be more prone to it now that you already have it

i did the same exact thing once. it hurt wicked bad and it was bruised and swollen. i just stayed off it for a while (thats really the only thing you can do).

did mine like 3 years ago and my best advice is go to a doctor. its gonna hurt for a long time but you cant get a cast so the best thing is crutches till the swelling goes down then get some dr sholles (sp.) foot gels for your shoes and i would not ski for like 6-8 weeks

Bottom line, go to an orthopedic foot surgeon or another specialist, because none of us can tell you what is wrong with your foot, and there are different treatments for different problems.

i cracked my growth plate a couple years ago. I took 3 weeks off then skied lightly for 2, then shattered it at VTO. If its cracked, STAY OFF IT FOR ATLEAST 5 WEEKS! try to use crutches and stuff for 3 weeks.

when I cracked mine I stayed off it for 4 weeks and re-hurt it and now I probably can't jump til July. Don't take anyones advice on here, go to a specialist (not a normal doctor, but a foot specialist) and do what they tell you to do....that is what I would suggest anyway

I explained to him what I did, I explained to him that I went to a doctor. He is seeking MEDICAL ADVICE, so I told him that it wouldn't be smart to take such ADVICE (referring to the medical advice for which he was searching) from people who aren't specialists, or from doctors who are unable to examine him correctly.

Clarified and understood. Bottom line, x-rays are REQUIRED for this type of an injury, see a specialist.

that is what i should have done last year. i just went to the doc got xrays and he said it was fine. and i was like what the fuck, because i was in so much pain. couldnt walk on it or anything. took about four weeks to get better before i could ski and then i still had to take it easy.

i super appreciate all the feedback but i'm still wondering why going to the doc is so critical. i mean getting the xray tells me, yep it's broken, or whatever but then what else is he gonna do for me? don't misunderstand, i'm seriously asking. i mean it sounds like people are saying definitely go see a dr and get it xrayed but then he's gonna tell me to just stay off it. and take it easy for awhile. basically, wise or not, i'm trying to get away with not going to the dr. if at all possible. i'm already dropping five grand to have a baby and got plenty of other bills if you know what i mean.

because it isn't just "its broken" or "its not broken". I am not a doctor, but I have heard of a few heel problems, and there are many things it probably could be. It could be broken in such a way that it need surgery, it could be broken in a way that you don't. It might not be broken but your fat pad could be contused which would require a different treatment, you could have torn your ligamant under your foot, you could have chipped a part of the bone off. The doctor is the only one that can tell you what you did, and he is the only one that can tell you how to make it heal properly, not a bunch of kids online. I am not saying that your case is any of the above mentioned problems, I really have no idea what you did, so you should go to a specialist and find out from them what is up.

I mean it is totally up to you what you do, but I would go to a Doctor. I didn't read that you don't have insurance, but to me it is always worth it to know what is wrong. My aunt who is a nurse basically told me, when I was just going to let it heal itself, she said "Is skiing something you want to continue to do?" and I said "Yes, of course", so she said "Well, if you want to continue doing what you have been doing (park skiing) Go to a specialist, because it could be any number of things" or something to that effect. Which is why I ended up going to the doc, and even though I found out it was broken, I am 100% super happy I went because now I know what I am up against, I know what was done, I know some tips for making it more comforatable, and I know how long until I can jump again.
