Cracked edges

How do edges crack? Mine are starting to crack like crazy and i dont know why... i dont care but i dont know why

^^^huh, i never thought about that, thats intresting, i thot it wus just from slamming against metal rails so much...my edges ar cracked in 4 places...not good

hoose is a p i m p

phrosty, your retarded. that is complete BS. its just from impacts on rails and shit. it happens. it doest do much, but it increases your chances of pulling an edge.

now phrosty, heat would have to be created from friction, right? now, how much friction is created on your average rail? almost none. and for the heat to affect the the strength of the steel, it would have to be red hot. much, much more heat is applied while waxing skis, and they are not going to turn red. read up on tempering steel before posting useless BS like that.

i looked on google but all i could find was 3D Animation porn-sxmarty6

on sat and sunday i cracked my edges on the exact location on both of my skis (top right sidewall of both) it was really interesting.. i guess it's because when i fell on rails it was always right side down. im not too sure.. but most of my cracks/small cosmetic rips occur on the tips of my skis not near my boot.

My edges cracked when I let Kye use them and he flipped out when he couldn't stick this 's' rail his first try and threw them around.

you fucking idiots. phrosty is right. medal and medal sliding creates friction. Then the automatic cool down from the snow causes the edges to separate slightly. If it was from slamming, don’t ya think they would dent, not crack?

yeah there is enough friction. Open your eyes when someone does a rail at night, you can sometimes see sparks, that and the impact of ur edges onto the rail crack them

It would be the act of both unless you have brittle edges in the first place. When the metal heats up on a rail and is rapidly cooled by the snow it will harden becoming more of a crystallin structure. Thats how most steel is hardened is by the heating and rapid cooling. If that was the case the edges would have to get fairly hot and the wax would melt near the edges, I have never seen that happen so the heating/cooling theory is out the door. So basically if you beat the shit out of a metal and flex it repeatedly it will snap/crack.

Phrosty....these guys are freakin on u...i never thought of the idea of the heat thing but damn...i seriously think thats right

We're all chasing the dream

I think Phrosty's theory may have some truth to it. Cracked edges aren't caused by a single thing, it's a combination of things. Heating and bending the edges then cooling them off again definetly isn't helping your edges.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah you stupid shits, phrosty is totally right....

and to the idiot who said there was practically no friction metal on metal, did you ride the short bus to school?

The heat from friction makes perfect sense. When you hit a pool ball the temperature between the ball and the cloth can reach well over 400*F for a fraction of a second. I'm sure skis on a rail produce a load of heat too. Landing in snow, flexing your ski on impact, and doing this over and over...
