Could Gilson be cool?

Is there a future where Gilson is a popular brand to see in the park? So far their instagram has been horrible and their choice of team has been questionable, but could they turn it around?

For every solid move Gilson makes (ie getting George Brown on their team, hosting rail jams, etc) they make an equally cringy move (ie steepsteep).

Seems like they're trying to market to both the 12 year olds on tiktok/yt and the established older park skiing crowd, but the latter doesn't want to be associated with the former, so naturally they get hated on.

I respect Gilson for at least trying with cool events and putting on real talent once in a while.

I like Gilson a lot they are core af. I don’t agree with every decision they make but they try their best and for me thats way cooler than being k2 and not doing fuck all for the sport.

People shit on them for not being “cool”, don’t get me wrong, some of the graphics I don’t fw at all but somebody out there likes that shit and thats what their main demographic is. Too many corny ass edge-lord tryhard skiers talk shit on Misfit and Gilson but those are the brands I wanna see succeed most because they are good genuine people which I value way more than being whatever the traditional idea of what cool is

If Misfit ditched the M tips, Gilson ditched the monopoly and superdog graphics, and they both got a stacked team, they would be on par with J skis and icelantic and shit. Every small brand gets shit on in the beginning, even Vishnu did

I think it could happen if they just rebrand a bit and make some better topsheets. They are a good thing for skiing already, not causing any harm and giving out/back plenty to the sport.

"Gilson" is a whack name for anything, very negative swag.

This right here. Pretty wack name for a ski brand, I’m sure it’s the owners last name or something?

"Cool" ....."Popular"

More thoughts, if they changed their name to Gibson (remove the L) they would no longer be holding a fat L and the company name would be in honor of skiing lord Cole Gibson which would allow for a complete 180 of the brand allowing it to be officially cool.

It’s true. It’s funny watching people’s opinions change. I think some of the biggest resistance I saw was 1000 skis. You would have thought the sky was falling with how people acted. Now people are asking for reviews of them left and right.

I think they're trying to do too many things at once. Sponsoring up and coming skiers and hosting rail jams is sick. However, they also frequently sponsor "influencers" (steepsteep, and numerous tiktokers but forget their names) and seems like they're leaning more so that way. Where was my george brown pro model? they even got his (steepsteep) ski into rider's republic, a video game that nobody plays for the skiing anymore.

They need a name change but other than that and some shitty stuff to riders back in the day there's no reason they can't be cool, they do cool shit and have a pretty cool team (minus steepsteep but if he pushes inventory, that money goes right to rail jams so I don't mind)

Back in 2020 they designed a ski top sheet using one of my paintings. I’m definitely not a professional painter but I love it as a hobby and it was an opportunity I’ll always be thankful for. Everyone who I communicated with was super nice too. For that I’ll always root for them as a brand.

In the end, I think they only ever sold one pair of my skis (my dad bought them), but I’m still proud of them even if people hate on their graphic choices.

Gimmick-- Wonderingn how the hell a new company can land so many licenses agreements off the cuff..? $$$$$$$ I have no factual knowledge to base this opinion off , bu my guess is someone with some wealth started a brand, based of a gimmick and threw money at licensing agreements to gain noterity. Popsicle stcik skate decks have remained virtually unchanged for decades, wanna know why? Because if it aint broke, Dont try and fix it.
