Costa Rica climate?

Im about to go to Costa Rica for 3weeks on a service/backpacking trip and Im curious as to what your guys experiences' in that region. How's the weather usually? Is it extremely hot and humid there? Is there an abusrd amount of bugs?

 
My sister is there right now and she got a horrible nasty sting from a giant bug. I guess the insects are much more powerful but otherwise she said they haven't been too bothersome.

Humidity can hit 100% on some days. Other than that, I'd just say hot hot hot.
 
I went last summer and its insanely humid all the time but the temperature isn't that bad. It also depends on if your going to the coast or the mountains (which are a lot cooler.) you should be fine if you use bug spray and lots of sunscreen.
 
Where in Costa Rica? It carries greatly. I've spent the past two summers in Talamanca but I've also visited other parts of the country

use pyrethrin spray on your clothes. Its a neurotoxin for bugs and it actually kills bugs unlike deet. It is also toxic to fish and I believe its unhealthy for cats as well.
 
Well you're going during the rainy season, so expect it to be rainy. The interior will be cooler and wetter than the coast. The weather was pretty consistent the whole time I was there. In the mountains it would rain once in the morning, once in the evening, then during the night. On the coast it only rained in the evening.

The hardest thing to get used to down there is the sun schedule. Say goodbye to 9 o'clock summer sunshine. You'll get sun from 6 to 6 down there, so make use of it.

Mosquitoes are ridiculous there. The bites seemed to last 3x as long as they would here and this was not just me, it was my entire family. It is quite hot and humid almost every day. Keep all your belongings close at all times or they may get stolen, especially shoes. Also, sunscreen is super important as are hats and sun glasses.

Other than that its cool as long as you stay on regularly used paths. There are a ton of snakes/other poisonous creatures that sit pretty close to the roads.
 
hot as fuuuuuck i went down there 18 months ago because i was into surfing (tamarindo) and it was literally too hot to do anything else but swim

OP where are you headed?
 
i was just there on the pacific side which is the side with the lowest amount of malaria infested shit. it was so nice everyday but starts to rain around 3 and will continue on for the night just wear bug spray and beware of rip currents. so its not that hot a lot its usually 80's or 90's also just beware of snakes, crocodiles and dont let flys in your mouth they apparently spit poison in your mouth and it can be pretty bad have fun its a cool place
 
I spent 2 weeks in costa rica last summer and I was all over the place. Spent some time on both coasts, as well as in the interior and mountains/rainforests etc. It was pretty humid but I don't remember ever being that uncomfortable at all. I'm from Connecticut though which already is decently humid. Not sure where you are from, but coming from colorado, wyoming, utah, or any other dry western state might be more of a shock. It also rains a lot which helps keep it cool. There were even some days where it got cool enough that I wore a long sleeve button down, but I think we got lucky with the weather.

 
Oh yah. And have fun with these guys. I hate these fuckers. They are harmless, but spooky as fuck and really fast. Probably the least of your worries as far as insects go, but they are everywhere in the rain-forest.

i got lucky and never saw any of those things. i saw a couple decent sized spiders. where were you when you were on the pacific side?
 
Honestly I don't remember. I was there on a service trip and we went to the pacific side at the end of the trip to camp on the beach and surf.
