The romans knew of lead poisoning, and avoided it as much as possible. They had been using lead things since the empire's inception - it wouldn't have been a significant factor nearly 500 years later. Plus, the constant flow of water in roman pipes and the fact it was hard water (mineral coating on the pipes) staved off a lot of lead.
Anyway, i didn't want to start anything. Most historians scoff at the notion that lead was a contributing factor - there were much bigger things at play. I just wanted to point out that I thought it was funny NDT mentioned it.

it does seem really repetitive and bland, like they are using lead edge science and briefly going over it (educating the general public as my friend put it) but they arent explaining how any of it works, just telling you that that is what it is, then they tell you some other weird thing, and together it seems more believable?

If they put a show out there that was pure, raw science, and only the people studying or have degrees in the fields would understand, no one would follow it.
Same concept was even applied to Carl Sagans Cosmos. Read the intro, all he wants is for everyone to understand and appreciate the universe around us, in a way people will listen.
I think it's brilliant, so happy it's happening.
The world needs to be more involved in the science community.

Its main point is to try and get kids into the sciences, which unfortunately America has been lacking in as of the past couple decades. The cartoons, the amazing animation, etc are all aimed at trying to set a hook into the imagination of people with little exposure to this part of science, especially young kids.
It's "dumbed down" because the very nature of this information is incredibly confusing and if you want some advanced lecture on this shit go to a lecture hall

It has to be dumbed down to some extent, otherwise it would be very confusing to the general population. Nobody would watch.
Two episodes ago when they had the thing about lead, and the guy was dong mass spec, they had the cartoon guy say he was sorry that he had to vaporize his sample, and that ionizing isn't as bad as it sounds. That's accurate, in that you need to do those things to do mass spec. And the general public doesn't know what mass spec is, I don't think anyway. So they didn't totally remove everything.
