Corrupted SD recovery help

Looking for help recovering photos.

My SD card in my Samsung s4 decided to shit the bed and my phone now tells me it is corrupted and can't access anything.

I saw online that there is some sort of chkdsk thing you can do on windows. I have a macbook though. I ran it through disk utility repair and it says it Can't unmount disk.

I know nothing about this except I can't access all my photos. Is there any decent software out there that is free? What's the recommended way forward?

I've had a handful of cards that were corrupted courtesy of a bad batch in the local shop. I use recovery pro through sandisk, not sure if it'll work for what you're looking for, but I highly recommend it for sure.

I filmed some sidecountry with my GoPro the other week and one of my longest videos got corrupted. I fixed it after using instructions/ a program off of this reddit thread. I know that that's not necessarily what you're after, but it might work to bring back some files if you can recover/ get to them. Good luck!
