Cork 180

Ok, well you guys keep doing these "corked 180s," I've just never been a fan of claiming. I for one, choose to obey the laws of physics. There is a difference between physically impossible and figuratively impossible- re: Tony Hawk arguement.

Look at a corked 3 from CR or Eric. Just look at it. Observe the mechanics of it... I'll leave it at that for this arguement, because if you can actually truely do one, not only are you a good skier, but you might just have grown up in Smallville.
 
According to Jacob Wester's tricktips at freeride.nu, cork is between 20-70 and d-spin is past 70.

20 don't really sounds like a cork to me but whatever. The article is from 2003.
 
so what your saying is that to determine whether it is corked or off axis, we have to ask you. Is there a certain point, like feet over head, that it becomes corked. Otherwise what youre saying is that really really off-axis is not corked.
 
and after watching that zach guy's movie, i think if he had more air and a steep landing that he could nose manul out of, it would work

did everyone just black out when laurent favre did the cork 180 over the roller in X, and NASM. Or how about eddie wall in pulse. I like how you guys are going over the physics of how they are impossible, while people are out there doing them.
 
Have you SEEN the one in onelove, because if not I wouldn't talk.

Maybe if I have some time I will rip it, because it's completely legit and will blow your mind.
 
as long as you cork like sideways then its possible.

so your hip is facing the snow rather than your face like it would be in the first 180 of a cork 7.

i can do them into foam pits
 
... And I can't find my copy of one love at the moment. Dan knows what he's talking about though, so take all that physics crap and throw it out, cause it's definitely possible.
 
seriously, it has been done, everyone looks at corks and thinks that since you cork at 180 you land on your face. All you have to do is cork at 90 then pull your legs back under you to regain axis.
 
THAT's a cork? Oh wow. I'll admit, that looks cool, but how is that corked. No kidding a few years ago I was always reading about kids doing all these "corked" spins and me getting jealous because I couldnt. Yeah and a tailslide is slide under your heal...

Fuck, for fuck's sake, it is physically not possible.

You show me a vid of a 180 where the person takes off has his head under his feet at one point and lands again without his head bouncing off the ground and I'll eat every word. It is time for a Diet for me afterall.
 
I think I'd have to agree with sim's point of view here, to put it in perspective to perform a cork 180 you would have to have complete control and defy a few laws of physics, and if you can cork 180 theoretically that would mean you could during a 360 go 180 clockwise, then change your motion to go 180 counter-clockwise

I simply don't know if thats possible, but it seems close to impossible, if anyone manages to do that, mad props to them
 
ok first off laurents is cork, and since seenig that around 2 years ago, I and a few others at my hill have practiced this trick, and pulled it off quite a few times.

I just picked up my copy of shrediquette yesterday, and have spotted 2 corked (or really off axis) one eighties.

For those who own the movie, watch in the credits and there is a snowboarder who goes under a bridge and up a sketchy spine. He looks very out of control up the qp, and takes off on an edge sending him so corked he is almost rodeo. Somehow through exessive flailing he brings it back on axis throught his 180 rotation. You dont quite see the landing, but you could tell he probably stuck it or got really close.

The second case is in the grouse mountain extra. It is around 3 quarters of the way through, and is shot from a lift tower or heli. It is a high cam angle is all I know. The boarder carves super hard off the lip and if you play it in super slo-mo, you can clearly see that his entire torso, face, and kknees are facing the deck. Even if it is not a truly corked backside 180, it is unbelievably styly and should be givin props anyway.
 
i once caught an edge of the lip of the jump and started going corked but then flialed and somehow shifftied my feet back under me and skiied away so how bout that a cork straight air, oh its possible
 
that wasnt a cork 180, he might have been going for that but it was more like doggystyle 180, looked hard tho no doubt
 
Laurant said that he has done them, so believe the man. Just because you think its impossible doesnt mean that its actually impossible, and corked doesnt mean that you body has the be parallel to the ground, it can be but it can also be just barely off-axis. Off-axis is corked, or bio depending on how you throw it.
 
I think corked is nearly exactlky horizantal. anything below is off axis, anything abouve is misty/rodeo/various flips.
