Corbet's Launch?

My friend was talking to to me about Corbet's when sometimes, on really huge powder days, they would open up the gates so you can get as much speed as you can from the the top of the Tram, and launch off the cliff into the snow.

It this true?

I want pics or something if it is.

if you have ever been on top of it, that would be hard to imagine- if not a death wish. because the landing on corbets is like super fuckin steep to begin with so if you have any speed, you will drop so much farther

well, i'm sure you could. But I don't know if anybody has ever done it, much less lived through it. If you value your life, I wouldn't recommend it.

shit, nevermind. I was thinking of another bowl off the backside of Jackson. It's been a long time since I've been there. i just called my dad, he said he launched corbets a few times when he was instructing at Jackson. Apparently you can do it, but don't expect to get any less than 180-200 feet or air.

Well, I dropped in off the 35ft part in Early Januaray (apparently the biggest Corbet's has been in years)...

I know it's possible to launch it, I'm just wondering if there is a time when they allow it.

I just thought I'd post them to give people an idea of what it looked like. If you're going to complain, at least post something better to back up your criticism.

they dont let the public do that, but ive seen a vid of someone hucking an enormous backflip off of it.

Micah Black did that for TGR. I've seen some stills shot from in the cave of his backie as well, pretty ridiculous. Rick Armstrong has taken three figures worth of air into Corbet's as well...

hehe. I don;t think you understood right.

First, it's not possible to jump in from the tram.

Second- Let me describe this better.

Imagine getting as much speed as you can, and LAUNCHING off into Corbet's Couloir. They would open the gates for you, so that you didn't have to speed check around the ropes.

think- 50 degree slope, 30ft cliff at 30mph.

You could easily make it over halfway down Corbet's in the air.

I'm just wondering if they let people do that.

no way if you pointed it from the tram you would be doing way over 30, you would go rediculasly far, like alomst to the cliff band above laramie. well not really, but you would go way to far

I've seen a picture of some dude dropping the cliff on skiers left. Pretty old picture but that was alot more air than usual. I doubt they would open it up like that though.

there is a picture of micah black launching in with heaps of speed but i cant find it. il keep looking and post it if i can

That's pretty cool, because when I went to Jackson last January, I ran into Micah, Tommy Mo, and Jeremy Nobis.

We ski'd a few runs with em too!

It's not bad as long as the snow is somewhat soft, unfortunately it was icy last time I was up there.
