hey guys,i just got an (3) emails from my ISP (comcast) saying that through my wireless network i have been downloading illegal content. (the newsroom because i really cant afford HBO) so what happens after that? does it stay the same, or do i get chased around by guys in black suits the rest of my life... is there any follow up from my ISP/government? if so, whats gonna go down? and has this happend to anyone else?

+k for anyone who give me legit answers. thanks in advance

Being america chances are the government will rape your family.

OTOH it's somewhat more likely(this is what they do) they'll simply cancel your internet service with them, I think over here most do it after 2 warnings, though warnings are very rarely given here as they don't really care about American copyright.

i got 3 warnings in under a day would that CONSTITUTE AS 3 warnings or only 1?

pardon the caps lock, to lazy to rewrite

ur fukked. prepare to be slapped with a 45,000$ fine and ten years in prison, criminal scum

My brother got a couple emails one time saying the same shit, he was using Utorrent too i think. Nothing happened to him so hopefully your good. I would prolly stop stealing shit though.

All branches of security have been notified. If you leave the country, they will turn you back.

lol I dunno. wait and see.

DON'T REPLY TO THE EMAIL, all they have right now is your IP address, and that is why they are contacting you through your ISP. If you reply they will know who you are and go after you, so just stop torrenting and worst case your ISP will drop you but you won't get sued.

There's a six strikes rule so definitely stop now but you shouldn't get kicked off.

Also I misunderstood, don't reply at all, if you do, you are acknowledging that you downloaded something illegally which makes legal action possible. Look into VPN's in the future to keep yourself out of trouble. Private Internet Access works very well for me, but there are a ton out there. Don't forget do enable DNS leak protection if you get one.

For the time being, I would let your parents know so that they can do something if it goes wrong (it would probably help to mention that you won't be kicked off yet, and show them the articel), STOP DOWNLOADING ILLEGAL SHIT, stop any torrents that are seeded if you have any, and you should be good. Good luck!

It's true, that's why they are contacting him through his ISP, and the supreme court ruled that copyright holders cannot sue IP adresses as people. If you're laughing at my contradicting myself then yeah... oops.

Well, you downloaded the Newsroom, that's your first problem. Out of all the HBO shows you download that garbage???

tell them you're just downloading a backup copyand then go buy the dvd to prove it if they ask

it worked in college years ago

the government only go after people posting the torrents they really dont care about whose downloading them because i dont think they can get the IP addresses, stop seeding if your doing that once the torrent is done downloading right click and say stop

Isnt it like really really hard to get caught unless you seed? stop seeding on utorrent ya dummy. You dont even need to maintain a ratio.

Step 1: Call Comcast

Step 2: Complain about the service (it doesn't matter if you're lying - just do it)

Step 3: Ask to speak to a supervisor and state you are going to drop Comcast for ATT/Dish/DirecTV

Step 4: Supervisor will probably lower your current rate and give you free movie channels

We used to do this every few months when I was in college haha. We had every movie channel for 3 years and our bill was never more than like $90 a month.

Pretty much this. Or tell them some other company is offering you better rates and youre thinking about switching.

Step 1: Call ComcastStep 2: Tell them you are .AR6rider.

Step 3: ????

Step 4: free tv fo lifeeee foo

If its from your ISP then the worst that will happen right now is getting internet cut off.

Subscribe to a VPN, best 30 bucks I've ever spent.

tor browser??? do you live in Euro were they go after users not manufacturers....

but really as a kid I used to have my internet speed close to 0 if I downloaded like 100 illegals

I used to rip music but now its easier and less risky to FLV to Mp3

yeah i think thats where i went wrong, i was not only seeding my shows but Microsoft Office, Final Cut Pro, Screenflow Artboard, and Soundtrack Pro.

Guess ill be moving to mexico.

i have a program called peerblock and it pretty much just blocks unwanted ip's, like those of your isp. i never torrent something without it and it hasnt failed me yet.

As we can see https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/752918/, that idea went well...

Don't sweat it OP. My friend was big on pirating things in high school and his family received five warnings, after which their internet was cut off. Needless to say his parents were not pleased but all they had to do was call up their ISP and they reinstated the connection, no problem. Keep in mind that the ISP is running a business - they don't want to lose that $60+ a month they're milking your parents for.

Gotta be careful with peerblock, it's not really doing what you think it's doing. VPN is the way to go for true safety.

And OP, I know this is a dick move but just don't seed. Nobody (your ISP) gives a fuck about the people downloading, they want to nail the people uploading/supplying the other people. They wanna cut off the head.

the cardinal rule of torrenting is not to go overboard with it. you cant download like 5 seasons of a show in HD while seeding for large software and then downloading other shit too.

just take it easy

They only go after seeders because it's technically not illegal to download pirated content. Only illegal to redistribute and supply to others, which is what you do when you seed.
