Coping with the fact that Your season might be over?

So yesterday i went skiing at a small rundown hill. (It was ski free day)and it was really icey as usual in maine and i was just skiing not even in the park when i hooked my edge on a turn and my upper body kept turning torquing my knee. I am afraid to go to the docs in fear of hearing those dreadful words "torn ACL" but i dont think i can aviod it for ever. I'm hoping its no more than a MCL sprain or a meniscus tear but you never know. So my question to you NS is how did you cope when you where told your season was over?

Deal with it. Get it taken care of, get it rehabbed, and you will be back on snow in less than a year. In the grand scheme, it's a short time.

I'll say the same thing I tell every one else who thinks they may have torn something in their knee...GO TO THE DOCTOR. If you continue to exert yourself on a knee with a torn ligament, you will most likely end up doing damage to your meniscus. I did a bunch of damage to my meniscus. I'm fine now, but I've been warned that I'm most likely looking at multiple knee replacements before I turn 70.

Broke collarbone in early March last season. Sat there on the side of the slope after it happened and just let it sink in. After realizing there's nothing you can do to fix it now, just move on and focus on something else

Take it easy, the more you work at recovery (whatever it may be) the sooner you'll be back on the hill. Listen to your body and don't over do it. I just dislocated my shoulder again, so I know what a bummer an injury can be at this point of the season.

I'm going to the doctor today to see if my acl is torn or not, or what's wrong with my knee. I can't put much weight on it and can't straighten my leg, but I'm just hoping for the best. Hold in there, we're in this together.

galardo youre fine. you were skiing the other day and moving your leg all over the place. fyi bending it in all different directions on the side of the hill isnt going to help... just take a break for a while, let it heal up. you most definitely did not do anything to your ACL

Believe me it sucks. You build so.much hype up for shredding in the offseason and then get it crushed. Find something fun to do

On my third day this year I got a hemorrhagic contusion in my brain. It's fucking crushing but I've been dealing with it by watching edits and making music. Good luck

Just got back from the hospital, upon examination, my acl is torn, with meniscus damage and my season's over. I'm going to start physio, get an mri in a month and a half, and see just how bad it is. So judging from the fact that you're in better condition than I am, I'd say you're fine, but go to a doctor to be sure. You don't want to end up where I am. Just take it easy for a bit, and do some leg and knee strengthening just to be sure you don't hurt it in the future.

That sucks dude best of luck to you. Yeah I think I am going to go to the doctors if i'm not well in a couple of days.

Make sure you just take it easy and do RICE for a few days, don't ski this weekend. If it's still bad in a week get it looked at. Better safe than sorry.

Ski on one ski. As long as you don't use that leg for anything you should be golden. But seriously get it checked out and try to do anything you can do to get your mind off skiing, don't even get on NS you'll just bum yourself out.. Shredsauce is the only exception. If you took my advice you wouldn't even see this post.

I'll go a little more in depth once i got home and took my pants off my knee was swollen a little and it hurt mildly i also noticed that it pops every time i bend my knee. Now the popping is still there it doesnt hurt as bad but still nagging and theres almost no swelling. I can run but there's discomfort. Oh i also finished the day skiing but it was really painful especially when landing and side stepping (only hit one jump before i knew i had hurt my knee)

Is there any discoloration? I'd stretch (VERY CAREFULLY) and still stay off skis for a few days. Also don't run, just walk. You really don;t want to fuck it up.

When it swoll it was red obviously. But no other than that it appears good visually. I am going to the doctor wedsday if its not well. And yeah ik I was trying to see what I could do on it and i aggravated it BUT the good knews is I have a full rang of motion and ability. Now I'm just gonna let it be and hopefully heal. Thanks for all the advice every one!

Agree! You better get that checked and be xrayed asap. It may be too dangerous when you just let the fracture and pain takes it time. It may develop into serious injury like internal bleeding, or worst bone cancer. I'm not scaring you, but just telling you the complications.

dude, your knee probably doesn't have an ACL tear. some people say it doesn'T hurt all that much, but for me, I knew. the second it happened I knew for sure. and also, ACL happens when you overshoot a jump or something, not when you torque it. good luck with it

I torqued my knee in the pipe and tore it. It's not immune to certain types of movements, it's a ligament that can be hurt in a variety of ways.
