coolest job

i think that ski instructing kicks ass but not in ontario.

every saturday we get these delinquint girls from a special reform school nearby that come for either ski, board or skiboard lessons. there were 2 butt ugly dykes that admitted it, one hot chick who took off her shirt on the lift and some girls that are too young for me to think about.

they would pat you down lookin for smokes or weed or anything. it was hell most of the time but you'd sometimes get a couple of nice ones that would talk about something other than drugs and the shootouts they'd had with police in the US.

I'm working for the third year in the parking lot of a small resort. I direct cars for 2-3 hours (5 max on holidays) and then go ski for the rest of the afternoon for free. Working 3 hours a week for a free ski pass and discounts on gear is a pretty good, even if I make $7/hr. working a whole winter makes me $600, enough for a pair of skis and bindings.

I'm a sportswriter for the paper, I sit around in the office and write posts at newschoolers.com while I wait for coaches to phone and report on games. Then I go cover games, and interview hot basketball and volleyball chicks. And I get to see my name in the paper every day. :)

Rock/Ice climbing guide. I get paid pretty nice to go rock climbing with people and help them push their comfort zone/make personal breakthroughs. It's also quite fun to be climbing and rigging multiple systems super fast/efficient while the clients have noooo idea what is really going on. I think [tag=198199]@TRVP_ANGEL[/tag] has the best job on NS. Not really expected to comment on NS like @eheath or [tag=1388]@skierman[/tag] and has the flexibility to kinda just dip in and out of threads, not a lot of obligation to stay on brand or whatever, generally liked by people too.

I plant trees in northern ontairo for the summers. Pretty rough some times but overall its a sweet job. You get paid 13 cent per tree so you gotta pound those fuckers in to make a decent wage. It's nice to be up in the wild for a while, kinda get a break from normal life and society and all.

I have the pleasure of driving this bad boy at night for half the year and make pretty solid money doing it. Doesn’t get much better than that imo

Honestly grooming is pretty peak. Drive around in a comfy $250k tractor all night while bumping tunes and not talking to anyone. I work 4pm to 12pm, which matches my normal sleep schedule, so I sleep until 11am, go ski for a few hours, then go to work. The lack of social life is kinda hard though.

I've planted only in Ontario, we mostly plant jack pine, and black spruce. Everyone I talk to about planting always says BC is where it's at though! good prices and good people is what I hear. My pb is 6275, it was in some beautiful sandy furrows. Where were you going to school when you planted? Did you travel up to BC?

Bro that’s sick! I did my undergrad in Alberta- I used to go home to BC for summer and would plant around the province- mostly Prince George. Land in BC can be pretty sharby/rocky sometimes, it’s a lot more effort mentally to have smooth movement. Usually planting pine, fur and spruce. I really enjoyed planting hills and navigating the terrain efficiently. If you ever want a spot on the crew I’ve got some good contacts. From the Ontario people I’ve met they’ve said they basically need to relearn how to plant in BC because of how different it is, but like it because you bend over less for good wage. I did 5k second year @15cents and was super happy with that. Forced to quite as schools year round now and I’m down in SoCal.

I cut down all the trees these guys planted.

Falling trees and climbing is the most fun thing I've ever done. Gonna do it as long as im physically able. Also very stoked for pro faller work on wildland fires next summer.

Close second was working as a forester - I was a timber cruiser on the Olympic Peninsula for a while. Made really good money as a college student walking around in the woods all day measuring and identifying trees. Did some other forestry consulting but cruising timber was my favorite.

Bending over less sounds pretty good. After a season my back and legs seem to kill. I've been playing around with the idea of going out west but I think I wanna give Ontario at least one more year, hopfully as a crew boss this summer. Were you guys planting on heli blocks up in prince rubert? If not you should check in on some of your pieces! make sure that quality was good haha

Timber cruising sounds super cool. I'm currenting in a college program for forestry and am thinking one day (after I get planting all out of my system) that I'd want to try out some timber cruising or tree marking jobs. Seems pretty awesome to get paid just exploring all day!

No no don’t go to prince rupert. That place is reallly hard to plant on, my dads a forester and contracts those pieces out for the government. They’re crazy whack steep- basically need a ladder to get on your block and your likely camping on the block. Would be fun though! interior is where it’s at for sure imo! Unless you wanna spend a few years learning to plant it but I’d recommend a few interior years before you try there

I actually live in Terrace an hour and a bit away from Prince Rupert, I’m surprised you know the place
