Converting from Tramp to Ramp?

Whats it like converting the skills and experience of tricks on a tramp to the real deal with boots + skis on a ramp?

Never, so far done a flip on skis. I'm no competition standard skiier but quitely confident with big mountain and now spins etc. However recently I've really been putting some time in with a tramp. I can now frontflip, backflip, lincoln loop etc pretty confidently. However I can't quite imagine whether it will feel the same with skis and the added boot of a kicker.

How has anyone felt the transition between tramp and ramp goes. Does knowledge aquired on the tramp pay off?

Muscle memory transfers basically between your tramp experience and your on-ski experience, though they are basically different. That said, flips on tramps require more torque on your body, whereas on skis it pretty much carries you through the flip, so its just slower (unless you're doing these on crazy small jumps), but it does help.

tramp simply gives you the feeling, and not much more... skis add wait thus making it harder to flip and spin. but with the tramp you learn wut the rotation feels like, and how to throw a trick

I actually thing trying out the tramp with snowblades might pay off. It would simulate the weight on your feet much better.

Just been checking eBay however; snowblades go for a bomb nowadays!? Seriously some old 2005 models with rust are going for £60 ($120)!

i find it the opposite actually. i find spins and stuff easier on skis because it gives you balance. on skis, i dont have to throw stuff as hard since your in the air longer and you have the kick of the jump to give you that little extra boost or w/e to help you spin around.

what i find, is that, i usually end up spining a 180 more when on snow, then i do on the tramp. for example, i can cork 5 on tramp but if i throw itt he same on skis i cork 7. same thing with misty and stuff.

the hard part about transferring it is that you just gotta get over being nervous about trying it on skis. also dont bail out, and definatly try it on a jump with a steep, soft landing, so if u fall you wont get hurt

^ yeah i can basically only get 9 on tramp

and going from tramp to ramps is different, the big difference for me was the fact that i was moving forward, not just standing still... so just be prepared for stuff like that, all you need to do is just go over it mentally then you'll be good

If you are going to use ankle weights, be aware that this could put fluid in your knees. If you do get fluid in your knees, they remove it with needles. Seems like fun, eh? Back to the topic; it really is muscle memory, if you keep on practicing it, it comes naturally. For example, I am a HUGE basketball player and I practiced my free throws for awhile and I can now make them without looking. This my seem trivial but it is the same concept.

alrighty, will try not weigh myself down so badly that I need fluid to be drained from my knees, but i get the point! I guess i'll file>save my muscle memory and just go for it on the kickers. going to see what gayblades would feel like though. I see on youtube alot of people cut ski shapes from acrylic and tape them to their feel. I think this is a little too keen and can't see how it helps weight wise.
