nothing can come out of nothing. therefore, for there to be something, there must have always been something.

simple law of probability: if there is no chance of anything coming out of absolute nothing, the probability of it will always be zero. however, if there was something, then there could be something.

scientists believe that that something is energy and mass, two concepts, that reacted to form matter. Christians believe God created matter as we know it.

now, i dunno about you, but im going to trust a God in making what we know more than two blind concepts.

The law of probability is just something scientists made up as an attempt to grasp some hold of understanding of this world. I personally don't believe that you can even BEGIN to justify something as complex as creation, by using something humans created (logic) alone. That's silly and extremely flawed.
 
I just don't like this sentence, "In saying this I am not trying to condemn any of you but instead I hope to inspire you to start thinking about your relationship with your creator", because you are already implying that god is everybody's creator, which is not believed by some people. But i have no problem with religions, and you are absolutely right, for a lot of people god i a person to whom they can always confess, pray, and express feelings, which is a great thing.

I just thought I would make this point to everyone: Firstly, I believe there is a God, I do'nt necessarily like the idea of Church, but I do believe Jesus is my savior. Now, putting that aside, I think we should all look at this.

Many people on here, and throughout the rest of the country and world alike say "prove it" prove this, prove that, Prove that God exists. Well, to prove that God exists is to take away all faith. Looking up the exact defiinitions of faith, one comes across this:

That is straight out of the dictionary. Faith is the Believe that does NOT rest on Logical PROOF or Material Evidence. Therefore to have faith in God is to believe in God WITHOUT proof. Therefore the statement "Prove the existence of God" is flawed, because the whole basis of faith in God rests in the fact that there is no proof.
 
i hate to poop on beleivers but there is no empirical evidence that christ even existed. this has been true since at least the 1600s. i dont mean to say he definitly wasnt there but blind faith leads to blind following and that generally cause shitloads of problems. i personally am more into philosophy than religion because aside from the congregation, christianity is just telling you to follow basic moral principles that many christians don't even give a shit about
 
if humans created logic, then how can we trust it? it's just arbitrary then.

how can we say that since it is cold out, we must therefore wear something to keep us warm if logic is inherently flawed because we somehow created it?

how then can we trust mathematics, which are based on logic, to help us calculate things and, i dunno, send astronauts into space, if logic is arbitrary and invented by humans?

would you say that animals don't use logic then, when they come up to a cliff and turn around so as to not fall over it? or would you say that is instinct?

if you can't trust logic, then you cannot explain anything, ever. if you try to explain something, you must use logic.

im using logic right now, and you used logic in what you said discrediting me for using logic. you just cannot have it both ways, then.

the law of probability states that nothing can come from where there is nothing. that seems to be logically sound. but if you can't trust logic, you can't do much, really.

to the guy who responded to me: you asked where did God come from then. then you state that you believe there has always been matter. well, let's turn it around: where did that matter come from then? pretty hypocritical, no?
 
and so then what do you suggest using? science? that's founded on logic, im pretty sure.

Spirituality, which is founded on faith? go ahead and try, most people will want some crete (ie logical) proof for your spiritual beliefs, even if theya re entirely dependant on faith, eg this thread.
 
I dont like when people sterotype christianity as a bunch of people who try to shove their religion down the throats of other people because thats not the case. I b et 90% of the people who go to church do because there family for generations has beleived in that type of religion. I dont know anyone who has been converted (I do live in a small community though). There was a quote that Einstein made about science and relgion working together but I cant seem to find it, it makes sense though.

im more of a science girl. if you cant prove it to me, i dont believe it. such as the creation theory. i believe in evolution. it just hard to believe in something that ive never seen and its all based on what someone wrote down a lot of years ago.
 
FYI : half of the evolution theory is technically scientific. micro evolution, or if you prefer speciation, is observed, and therefore scientific. that is, that through natural selection, species of animales can change and adapt to the point of being a different species from the original species. that is, there is not immutability of species.

however, macro evolution, that is changes from sub phyla to sub phyla, from family to family, or if you prefer goo to you via the zoo, has never been observed, and therefore is not scientific by definition. it is an educated guess, never backed by any actual observation on behalf of darwin. he stretched his conclusion that since species can change from one to another, then they can chnage from one animal to another. so besides the fact that has never been observed, it is an impossibility due to irreductible complexity. read up on the matter. a non christian author, Michael Denton, has a sweet book called Evolution: A Theory in Crisis, if you'd like.

alright sure. Lets say god or a god did make this all happen. then who created god? Something must of right? And then something would have created whatever was the creator of god. This could just go on for ever and I dont even think our minds could grasp the correct answer if we found it.

you have to ask, what created the mass in the first place. Then what created that and so on and so on.

Trying to find an answer to "creation" is like trying to picture nothing. you cant.
 
the point is, as far as logic can go, there must be something eternal in this world for there to be anything in this world. we don't know what it is, but it's a logical necessity there be something eternel.

i believe that to be God.
 
alright. I can respect that. I dont believe in god still but i can respect you use "god" as a means of logic where the questions are not answered.

by the way, I have been to church. I used to go every sunday for 10 years, so therefore I have experianced both sides, (*religiuos and non religious*), so that is how I base my opinions. unlike im sure SOME people who replied in this thread that only know one side of the story and therefore create a biased opinion. Im not saying this is you almostaskier, because obviously i dont know you, im just stateing this.
 
i know both sides, because i live in the world.

i am religious, but most of the people i interact with aren't. Sweden is one of the most secularized societies int he world. France is the same. because of that, im pretty sure i have a fairly balanced view of the issue.

How about you show me proof of god and jesus before i believe it. And a 2,000 year old book is not proof enough. I do believe there is a superior force that rules over all/life, but in no way shape or form do i believe anything in the christian aspect. I do not buy into christianity at all, and especially catholic beliefs, those are a waste of time and money.
 
ceasar's conquest of gaul is 2050 years old, and all we know about it is from a few letters that were sent, and stories transcribed from people who were there some 200 years after. yet it is historic fact.

so a book written and rewritten religiously, with many many authors, with a relatively short time (75 years) between event and transcription, and that sticks both with historian accounts of the time AND that has many, many more original copies to go around, is NOT historical fact?
 
Dudes... you know you can't argue with a religious zealot, for the simple reason that you have to respect that what they think is based on faith, and faith alone.

Many ancient christian philosophers have written that they knew that much of what they thought was difficult to explain, but that they had to base their belief on faith.

So I respect all of you religious people for that. However, I think that it isn't very rational to base what you think on faith alone... and for that reason I simply disregard religion entirely. Best way to go.

but your whole "substance" premise is so completely vague. what is your substance that you want to be etrenal?

is it matter, such as atoms? or quarks? or so on and so forth? substance is just vague. basically what you would be saying is that there was no actual start to matter as we know it, since your "substance" encompasses everything you choose fit. if you want matter to be the start of matter, well, thats kinda not explaining it.

in terms of absolute orgins of substance, or matter, you can explain it by substancxe, or matter being eternal.

Scientists have been known to be wrong. What was that one drug that the FDA figured out caused heart attacks, I forget, but scientists made that drug to cure something. There is so much room for error in science that the whole thing could for all be wrong we know, and nobody has proven the big bang yet, and until somebody does, your argument doesnt hold water any better than ours.

Obviously you can all see how I feel about this...

so then the question: can matter possibly be eternal, if it is made up of many many pieces that are being discovered constantly?

and can matter preduce order? and can it produce feelings, emotions, and more over, beauty?

Some of you should get off his business. He is not saying for you to do anything. He is just stating how he believes in a non ski related forum. There is nothing wrong with that.

And, he is letting everyone know, who IS interested,that there is a christian cult. So, if you are not interested in Christianity, he is obviously not talking to you, so you probably shouldn't shove words in his mouth.
