Contrast (Nimbus trailer)

I am really looking forward to this movie but the trailer seemed kind of like a let down. Tons of talking and not much skiing plus they used a song that has been in movies before (Exact Science and I think one other). I will still probably buy the flick when it comes out.

What do you think? BTW no Nimbus hate, the only movie I bought last fall was Hunting Yeti and I saw every major movie.

Not to stereotype Pep/Pollard, but I felt that it was overedited. Kinda like Pep's part in War (which I liked) - artsy, lots of editing and video effects.

And you're right, there wasn't much skiing, which is what people are looking for in a teaser. Not to be a bitch, but we can all find what we love in skiing - they can show us their view, but at least give us some bangers too, right? (That one double cork and a couple of Pep's shots were dirtyyyy though).

Word I mean no hate on their abilities or editing abilities.. if anything a compliment because I really look forward to their movies and edits. This movie is no exception I just thought they would do something way different with the teaser. Something a little faster or something.

I actually liked the trailer a LOT. I'm definitely buying Contrast though. I'm stoked for it. I think this could very well be their best movie and might be one of the best this year.

hmm, they wanted to do something different, so they chose to go the hipster route? film burn and film scratches (?) I hate seeing 16mm simulated hvx (any hd) footage. sorry, its just played.

Not hating of course, because well I love seeing people doing different things. If anything, Im pumped that they arent following the same format, it just seemed too much lifestyle for one trailer.

I guess we all know what to epect skiingwise though cos we have seen the En Roue webisodes. I think its cool that they can do something different and not have a trailer like everyone elses.

Agreed. I'm looking forward to it, but there should have been way more skiing. a 5 minute trailer is pretty long to hold my attention, and if it hadn't been for the fact that I've seen and been stoked on that crews stuff in the past, I probably wouldn't have made it to the end.
Seriously, I know you guys are people, and you're probably chill, nice, etc. but when i get a ski movie, I really don't want to watch you discussing the complexities of your life with yourself, in a studio. It's a sports movie, not a documentary or talk show. It seems like they feel the need to justify what they are doing and make it something more legitimate than what it is (not that skiing isn't totally legit; it has a ton of value, but they seem to be trying to make it somehow more complex or something, I don't really know haw to explain it).
I appreciate the showing of the whole picture thing (Pep summed it up fairly well at the end of that 2 minute long waste of time that could have been condensed into 15-30 seconds) but don't try to make it more than it is: skiing is skiing, it's dope and very good mentally and physically, etc. there is no need to get all philosophical about the greatness of the social experience and your connection to nature. If it's important to you, incorporate that subtly through your style and well integrated shots/discussion or voice over, but don't spend a bunch of time doing monologues in a studio. If the trailer is a good representation of what to expect from the final product (which I think it should be, or even maybe provide an optimistic view of what's to come) then there should be about 20% skiing max in this "ski" film.
No disrespect, but really: you're skiers and maybe film makers, so stick to that and leave the philosophy to philosophers, or do it when you're chillin and high, but take up half your movie with it.
I guess it's hard to keep up with expectations when you've made such an impact and have really pushed so many things in a new direction (webisodes, their style and approach to skiing, popularizing the shit out of backcountry, etc.).
Nonetheless, looks like a super sick film and may well be the best for the coming season (that is not a pessimistic comment). I'm looking forward to it.

I thought it was pretty great other than the monologues (as ^ discussed, haha), and the fact that that song has been used all over the place.

i actually like to hear the views of the athletes, as long as it isnt very long letures on their thoughts. i thought the trailer looked sick, but not as action packed as others (pretty good and everyday is a saturday were full of bangers)

and they themselves used the song in the first webisode this year, EnRoute Japan.

I disagree with those that believe there needs to be way more skiing in the trailer. Initially I agreed, but then thought,"Hey.... they've already put out 3 (or 4, I forget offhand) web videos." If they put more bangers and more skiing in the trailer, what would be the point of buying it. You could go back, watch the webisodes and the trailer and see everything you need to. I'm probably more stoked about Contrast than any other video other than maybe Walks of Life.

the trailer didn't get me stoked at all for the movie..but i guess these guys don't really need movie hype...you know it will be banger...considering all of the little en route edits

I just watched it today, my roommate got it. Its pretty good, better then Hunting Yeti IMO. Its short but has good music. I would recommended seeing at a premier before buying it though, wont be the best movie this year.

Don't quote me on it, but I'd thought they were going for more than just a ski movie. Not just tricks and bangers but cool lifestyle stuff and things like that, kinda like traveling circus. It's not all skiing, but still fun to watch. The want to depart from traditional skiing films which is cool. I guess i need to, and want to, see it to comment more.

I just watched it again, it reminds me of a skate montage. Definitely want to get it, I love the way they ski, Pollard's butter/revert in the pow was perfect.

You know my bro likes movies with less talk and more skiing, but for some reason i really enjoy the talking part in ski movies.

I like when they go to different countries and talk about what went on, funny stuff that happened or how they got a shot. It just seems more complete than watching banger shot after banger shot(which i do like to watch sometimes).

But after watching the directors commentary in Idea i got so much more out of watching the movie after that, because i knew what was going on in the shots and where they were and the story behind the shot.

Its refreshing to have ski movies with more than just banger shot after banger shot. Thats what i like about the way nimbus does there movies.
