Contest Nervousness

How do you deal with it?At contests I am always so fucking nervous I cant bring my run down or stick my tricks.Tonight I dreamed I was competing and standing on the inrun right when I woke up.My heart was beating like fuck, I was sweating almost panicing, and I was only dreaming.I need to get rid of this since I need some results this season.please help me!

i always used to listen to really stupid pop music. my go to's were britney spears "toxic" and kelis "milkshake". it's pretty hard to take any situation too seriously when listening to music that lame. give that a try.

when im nervous my focus gets even better, although my behavior becomes a bit anti social

i would say nervousness is a good thing

maybe try doing lots of other things that make you nervous like talking in front of lots of people or playing a big gig or something

Do something there make you relax talk with some friends, listen to some music, do anything there can take your nervousness of and make to a positive thing.

just bring it back down to reality. the fact of the matter is, you're not pro, if you come in dead last, you're in no worse place than before... you're in the contest to have fun and ride with friends, if you can keep that mentality your comp run will be no different than any other park sesh.

start talking to people or something beforehand to take your mind off. it works for me. try not to think abut it until the moment before you push off and then its all business. just dont think about it

i just joke around a bunch with my buddies on the drop in, just take my skis off and chill around having a laugh until my run's called, then clip in and drop in. Then you dont have the time to get nervous, plan your runs in practice though, don't want to drop in and be confused, thats worse than being nervous

imagine all the ppl watching are naked and don't take contests serious, just have fun and make the best of it !

realize that you are skiing, and having fun, and no matter how you do, it's going to be just as fun as any other run through the park.

Just go for it all. Ive found that when i used to be nervous at comps i would just be super conservitive, but that doesnt get you good scores...So one time i decided that i was going to just push it and link together all of the hardest things i could do.

Just think, if you go conservitive your just gunna do medeocre no matter what. but if you push it there is a chance that you'll do really well. and even if you fall after pushing it you will still be in the same position as you would have by being conservitive.

this, dont treat the day any different then you were just going to the hill to have a normal fun day, in my mind i didnt really give a shit about the contest just trying to chill and have fun, and in the end you will get the best results weather you place good or not.

no matter how big or small the comp is i love the feeling before you drop, and as soon as you do drop.

listen to music that makes you wanna ski

hahahahaha good old nervousness. Here is how I deal with it:

1-Remind yourself that you are doing this for fun. You will feel more relaxed when the fear of doing a shitty run goes away.

2-Spend at least an hour memorizing your run. When waiting for your turn, visualize your run, like that, you will already experience your run before even doing it.

3-The hardest part is stepping up to the start gate. Stay focused, be in a bubble. Dont get distracted and keep focusing on your run. When that guy tells you go, take a breather. Take a long deep breath and go.

I just try to act like its another practice run. But i usually just focus on the music im listening to and let the skiing come second hand

i get this before ski races, you're standing there freezing cold in spandex and nervous as fuck but it actually helps me ski better, once you get into the gates you forget everything

happens with everyone, just gotta learn to stay calm, keep the focus in perspective, and perform like you know you can. stomped these tricks hundreds of times, just gotta do it once more.

Ditto. It also helps to visualize yourself dropping in, hitting the jump, and sticking your tricks perfectly. Visualization has been known to help all kinds of athletes stay focused, concentrate during competition, and stay calm. Deep breathing would be another good technique. You can practice while you're hanging out at home not doing anything and by taking several deep breaths from your diaphram and letting them out slowly. Then, when you're at your ski comp and you're up on top of the run waiting to drop (while listening to "milkshake") you can do the deep breathing again and it may help to calm you down as well.

A comp is just like every other day of skiing. You go up, do your tricks, and whatever happens happens. You shouldn't be worried about comps because you're only going to ski as well as you ski.
