The nation's largest local television chain, the Sinclair Broadcasting Group, has ordered its 62 tv stations to pre-empt its regular prime-time programming to air a controversial documentary criticizing Senator John Kerry's record in Vietnam. The chain has network affiliates in many key swing states including Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Yesterday 18 Democratic Senators urged the Federal Communications Commission to investigate Sinclair's decision to air what they view as an unpaid 90-minute attack ad against Kerry. The film, ' Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal' is produced by Carlton Sherwood, a former Washington Times reporter who used to work for Department of Homeland Security director Tom Ridge while he was governor of Pennsylvania. This marks the second time this year Sinclair made headlines for its programming decisions. In April, the network refused to run an episode of Nightline when the anchor Ted Koppel read the names of every U.S. soldier killed in Iraq.

ask your cable/sattelite tv provider, the LOCAL channel, includes channels like NBC, ABC, and other shit like that. CNN is like the only national one, that is why it is not on antenna, only calbe. it is considered local if it is brodcasted to everyone through antenna from a local tower.

Actually, you know, if they aired Cheney's unauthorized biography (all over DBD and Newsworld last week up here in Canuckland), and slapped together an anti-bush documentary (not hard to do, considering all the ammo he's given us), and aired those... I wouldn't really have a problem with this. I mean, as long as it's actually true (unlike certain SBVFT ads), what can you say against it? Really, though, balance is key. If they're going to air one, they should air another from the opposing perspective.

you have the right to choose what you want to watch on tv too, its not like you are forced to do so. I mean I probably won't watch it and neither will many people, but if they want to they can. So don't say that people are forced to watch this, we have umpteen-million channels now days, you really don't have to watch it when you can watch real word reruns all the time. did i ever say they were forced? no, but you know how it is, if some American is watching the news and then all the sudden this shit is on, they are gonna watch it. I never said that we should actually keep them from airing it, but i dont think that channel (or coperation) can claim to be unbiased. the media in this country is not liberal.

Really, a shit load of print media is. Also. only one of the top three cable news channels in conservative ( guess witch one, it starts with an F and ends with a youareadumbassifyouhaventcaughtonhowdrunkiamnowox) the other two will gladly put on a liberal song and dance show all day long. Why the fuck do you think that Fox is the no. 1, well if there are 3 news channels and two political trains of thought and two are one of those are one train, the the other dominates the other half so fox has a corner on the conservative market, hence the horrid country music before the breaks, and the other two are liberal. Also, CBS and ABC are also liberal being the only two network channels that aren't backed by a 24 hour channel. CBS broadcasted pure bullshit on bush, and ABC is owned by Disney, which has a Gay pride day at their parks not to mention countless other liberal influences. I don't understand why some of these conservative groups feel the need to spend countless money airing commercials attacking Kerry's Vietnam term. I realize that much of his platform has been based around it, but regardless.. people don't care. They are getting tired of hearing rhetoric of what someone did 20 years ago, they want to know what he will do today. Why not spend that same money attacking Kerry's stand on current key issues?

In all honesty, right now, I am not all that offended by the different ads and whatever stories (fact or fiction) news channels cover. Some of you guys need to have more faith in the American people. I believe that not ALL people are as ignorant as they are made out to be.

There is enough variety of news channels available. People will watch what they want to watch, and those people will believe what they want to believe. If there's some tasteless news special being run on either end of the spectrum people won't even bother watching it - and the people that do aren't going to have some life changing epiphany. They will believe what they want to believe.

So, air some extreme right-wing propoganda or fahrenheit 9/11 on one or some of the news channels. I don't think there will be much effect. Because we have a choice with news.

Oh, and just to point out, BigJ, Disney is far from a liberal company. Their founder was practically a nazi, for chrissakes. They've also done a number of things to block publication of Michael Moore's books, and several disney execs backed the movement to boycott F9/11 that kept it out of quite a few theatres. Anyways, just some perspective on that. I wouldn't call Disney anti-republican, and certainly not pro-liberal.

I like how you seem to deny that mass media is pretty much liberal these days, but when a LOCAL chain decides to do something totally conservative it's proof that none off the media is liberal at all? A study done after the last presidential debate last week averaged the networks on how much they praised/ talked up either of the candidates... It averaged out that Kerry was praised more often than Bush by a large percentage even though many people felt the last debate was pretty much even, I felt it wasn't even worth watching...
