Congress votes to extend and renew the Patriot Act?

no. the average American is living in a bubble. MTV tells them what to listen to, Fox and CNN tell them what to be scared of and who to donate to and television shows in general give them something to talk about. meanwhile corporations lobby the fuck out of an aged congress and house who could give less of a fuck what bill they pass anymore as long as they have a good game on the links on sunday.
i could elaborate, but this is going to be a shitstorm in a second so whatever.

^ Sadly, most people don't read and definitely don't understand the unconstitutionality of the Patriot Act.

yup. they dont understand lawsuits and frequently get "fucked over" by the law. they dont understand how voting works and that elected officials only have as much power as the people give them because they are fucking elected. they are not kings. yet people forget that.
America is doomed. it is a government for the people, by the people. so when the people havent a clue what the fuck theyre doing, it leads you to question who is pulling the strings and making shit happen.

So true^ We became convinced after 9/11 that if we gave the gov these powers they would protect us from another attack, but seriously..? Citizens allow themselves to be manipulated by the government after times of crisis, to let the gov pass plans without discourse or political discussions about the good and bad of said plan is.... terrible. Sometimes we get lucky and these plans work effectively, but most of the time they FAIL.

even you referring to it as "the government" is a symptom of the apathy im describing. people need to realize that they are the government. they make the rules. but in the world of today where tv and interweb dominate all and actually allow people to live in said bubble where they are not affected by any discomforting ideas, groups of people or environmental issue, no riots or uprisings or revolutions or protests will come about. people are too lazy. too preoccupied with their little worlds to even realize how much they are being controlled and manipulated.

That's exactly what I mean, American's (the majority) don't care, which allows the gov to do whatever the hell they want. For example Iraq...

which is funny because its why i hate hipsters. the apathy, the i dont give a fuck lifestyle/attitude. it pisses me right off because it has become not only cool but the social norm.
that being said, as it is the social norm and many trendgroups have the same apathetic attitude about them, im not calling out hipsters so please dont come bitching at me about the indie scene and whatever. im just making a point.

the freedom of internet is the worst thing in the last two decades for those who advocate big and highly centralized government. And even on the internet where expressing ideas is not filtered, the government can still see everything that we do. I'm probably going on a govt list as we speak for posting this :-(

psh. i live in Singapore. where if i actually posted anything against the government or anything pertaining to revolt, riot or ruckus i would be getting a knock on my door come monday morning. there are word filters in place that send posts to screeners who dismiss or call attention to whatever the post says. its nuts.

just curious, how much can you get away with saying in singapore? whats it like as far as free speech goes?
