Confidence!

I just realized today as i was in the park that the key to doing any trick is having the balls to throw it down...i go up there today wanting to finally knock my 3s down in the park and i shit out right before i get to the hit...i dont know how to overcome this? anyone any idea that help

I usually try to see the trick happen in my mind and how it is going to be executed, then my concious will sometimes tell me not to do this just before the lip of the jump, but I just ignore my concious and do it, see the landing, and stomp it. Once you try it one time, you will not be as scared the other times. I also recommend wearing a helmet when ignoring your own concious.

REMEMBER: It's 10% equipment, and 90% rider.

get pumped before the jump...being nervous youll prolly get a rush...use it, just get as focused as you can - a couple days beofer doing it seriously just dream and visualize stomping that trick 24-7 - also something that helped me was taking some falls before that that didnt hurt so i wouldnt be afraid of falling

i know what you're talking about, i was skiing today and got kind of nervous before hitting a bigger table top and trying a 180...but like someone else said, just visualize it, and the commit- once i was in the air it wasnt that bad, and if you do crash, then it makes you realize that its not that bad (for spins at least, inverts could be a different story). good luck!

MUSIC!......the key to overcome ur fear is just listining to some tunes when your skiing. it forces you not to think about what you are afraid to do and to just throw it down. when i first started to park a lot i always thought way too much when i skied. sit at the top...plan ur run in ur head, put on the headphones, and just ski.

Sometimes it just takes lots of practice and the will to beat your face in, get back up, and do it again is what it's all about.....

I like to visualize the trick in my head while I am hiking up the hill, plan what I am going to do and note things that I am doing wrong. Once I get to the top of the hill I don't think of anything. I just think of putting on my skis and thats that. As I am going down the hill I don't say to myslef, 'OK Im pullin a 3 now' i just ride down the hill towards the ramp... once I get there i honestly say to myself 'Fuck It, its easy' and pull my trick cleanly. Honestly works. Keep your mind out of it, and just do it!

yeah, it's all about commitment. if you go in half assed your going to come out half assed aswell(i.e. eating shit). the longer you stand at the top of the inrun and think about it the more scared you get. visualize it while hiking or riding the chair and then do it. singing a song on your way in helps a ton too. just remember not to think yourself out of it. tell your fear to lick a taint and do it. falling doesn't hurt that much anyway. hey, if you fall your getting better. good luck.

robski1 has it dead on. If you're afraid of falling or you think you're going to you've already bailed. you won't even try and do it properly, you'll just sort of toss yourself off the jump or onto the rail and get slammed just like you thought you would. visualize it like crazy and stomp it. If that doesn't work, sometimes I try and remind myself that every day there are more and more girls who can take me to school and to stop being such a little bitch.

I've been having your same problem. So I just started a new mental game with myself. I used to race, so I'm pretty used to doing visualization stuff, but my new thing is cue words. Like when you train your dog, train your brain. So spend time everyday thinking about a trick, like a 3. Find a word that helps you recall everything you need to do to accomplish the trick. For me for 3's it's 3. So everytime I heard the word 3, I run through it in my head, from multiple perspectives. I'm not sure if it works yet or not, but my old race coach said it might help. She also said to keep a journal and write statements like, 'I will do a 3' and other such affirmations. Even if you don't believe them, it supposedly helps. You do have to be realistic with it though. It can't be your first day on skis, and you write, 'i'm going to land a swtich cork 1440 tailgrab' or anything.

ok well i went back up there today and tried it again and the first few times i kept only going 180 and then i got the full 3 the rest, well a few falls in there forsure but i did it!!!! now i can move up to bigger jumps its great!

i really enjoyed benditos help link... anything that ever came from the mouth of weatherman john macky cannot be wrong.

yea so i pretty much lost all my confidence in the park a few weeks ago when i started overshooting every single jump i hit. its been goin on for like 2 or 3 weeks and i get the worst shin bang and i lose more confidence every time

try hitting the jumps like 10 times without a helmet or even take ur jackett off and freeze, then before u try something new and big, put on ur jackett and helmet, it may sound gay but u almost feel invincible, and its all mental

Just see yourself riding away on the run up and always remember that pain is temporary and glory is forever.

realize that as long as you make the landing you should be ok and that if your going to do it you'll do it sooner or later so you might as well do it

to me, its worse of a feeling when ur at home after and u say to yourself ''i shouldve and couldve done it'' and ur next opportunity to ski is like a month away so it stays with u, so id rather land on my face and take a hard hit than go home with something on my mind

SNOWMAN17 I know exactly what you're talking about. I still lie awake at night thinking about a rail I should have hit last time I was at Blackcomb. I hate it when I skip shit like that and end up wishing I'd just fucking tried. Sure I might have messed myself up (I do that a lot) but if I'd greased it I would have been so stoked! I'll make that rail my bitch soon though...

Get comfortable with the hit and then just do it.

Think of what it is going to take to pull the trick around, and if you don't quite do it think about what you did wrong and what it is going to take to fix it.

Mental.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

wow that really helps i just dont think and do it and it works, i did the 3 off a 15 or 20 foot table no i wanna try it off the 25 footer, i know i can do it now!! Thanks for all the advice it helped!!
